5. Offering online pledging,
6. Adding more participating charities,
7. Creating our own Point Series,
8. Splitting the Cross Border Challenge over 2 days.

Registration

We are moving our event registration to the Running Room. We are making this move to use the online pledging functionality that the Running Room offers. Event registration will open mid-February.
Registration for the Cross Border Point Series is now open at Atlantic Chip. Please go to:

Atlantic Chip will be timing all our events this year.

The Travel Package – Hands up. Who doesn’t want to go on vacation somewhere warm? We will be giving away a $2,000 travel vochure for that dream vacation to some lucky participant in the Cross Border Challenge. It’s a draw prize so everyone has a chance. Want to increase your odds of winning? You get a ticket for each Cross Border challenge distance you register for. You get a ticket for registering early. You get two tickets for joining the Cross Border Point Series. You get a ticket for registering early for the Spring Tune up 5K and another for registering early for the Centennial Trail 5K. Please note that you must be present at the Cross Border Challenge post race awards to claim the prize (no exceptions).

Online Pledging – Would you like your running to benefit the community? All of our events will offer online pledging as an option for you to help out our participating charities. When you register for one of our races, through the Running Room, you will be able to add online pledging to your account, pick the combination of our participating charities you want to raise money for and then start fundraising using the Running Room’s functionality. Pledges can be paid online, the Running Room handles the transfer of the money to the charities and the issuance of tax receipts.

More Participating Charities – We have added more charities this year. The Cumberland YMCA, who has been our only charity for our first four years, will now be joined by three other groups. New this year: the Cumberland Hospital Foundation, the Shriners Hospital for Children and the United Way of Cumberland County. All of our charities provide extremely valuable services to Cumberland County. Please consider giving them your support and signing up for the online pledging.

The Cross Border Point Series – Register for the Point Series and get an exclusive race hat, two tickets for the $2,000 travel voucher draw, an opportunity to get more swag (a special series medal), win draw prizes and win some nice awards. You accumulate points for each event you run. You must register separately for the events. The number of points depends on your finish results relative to others in the same age group and gender class. Run in a minimum of four events, with at least two 10k or longer distances included), to qualify for the awards and draw prizes. Awards will be based on your total points for your best six finishes. Awards go to the top 3 M/F overall finishers and the top M/F in each age group.

The Cross Border Challenge Moves to 2 Days – What could be better than one day of the Cross Border Challenge? That’s right – 2 days!! Run or walk the 5K on Friday and then do the 10K or the Half on Saturday. It’s your option. Run or walk in 2 races and get a really, really big finisher medal for each race and then get a special medal for being crazy dedicated enough to do two distances on back to back days. Three medals and more chances to win that vacation package. Music and a social on Friday evening after the 5K. Wow, that race director is crazy!! Where do I sign up before he comes to his senses??

The Cross Border Challenge is organized and operated by the Cumberland Y Service Club, formerly the Amherst Y’s Mens Club. We have been serving our community through a variety of projects for over 50 years.

We’ll have more announcements soon: registration options, more swag, special pricing, unique finisher medals, and more. If you want to know about it right away, go to our Facebook page and like us. Or send me an email and I’ll add you to our contact list.
