The year is 1876. The town of Deadwood has just been established in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Although this land was said to belong to the Lakota-Sioux, (due to the Treaty of Fort Laramie in 1868) the announcement of gold in the area triggered the Black Hills Gold Rush. People swarmed to the area in hopes to get rich quickly. Yet not all of those who came to Deadwood were in search of gold. Some where there for adventures while others were there for trouble. In an almost lawless town, these rough and shady characters made the early days of Deadwood wild.
Deadwood is a town divided by those who want to see it become a safe place to live and those that would like to see the town once again become as lawless. Some live by the way of the gun, others pray for the day when guns will be a way of the past. Then are those who simply wish to live their lives. They are all hardened people who have made it far west, intent on building a life for themselves one way or another. With such a dangerous mix of people in such a small town, conflict is inevitable.
