she is blunt, and she is vaguely curious. rio admires the way she holds herself immediately, and yet there's something more to it. there is a certain air of sorrow to her, though she does not try to cover nor hide it. it seems to him that it is almost an indifference, as if she does not care that she feels it or not. when she tells him her name, he is vaguely amused, which brings a slight curling of his dark lips against his muzzle. foxtail, the same words he had thought silently to himself not only moments ago- only the words were combined, and they made up her name. it fit her perfectly, and not only because of her fox-like tail, but simply because rio thought it did in general. he might not have known the female very well- if at all, but something about her told him he thought the truth. she had taken a few more steps toward him before giving her name, as well as a very slight few wags of her tail. rio took this as a good omen, and felt his own tail around his paws twitch in return, giving a few languid drags across the earth before returning snug around his paws.
foxtail does not get embarassed or uncomfortable under his constant and intense golden gaze, and nor does she cast her own gaze away from him. they are evenly matched as they hold eye contact, and this, rio finds very respectful and admirable. but he does not voice this; though there is a silence hanging between them, rio feels as though she has more to say. and he is proven correct when she speaks once more to him. she asks if he is looking for a place to stay, and mentions tybalt, which seems a male name to him, and so he silently concludes that tybalt is either a brother or a mate to foxtail. though out of his gentlemen nature, he does not ask of it. if he does indeed ever meet this tybalt, he is sure that he would find out. though, the gesture she gives- offering him a place with them, as they search for a pack, catches him off guard. it seems this dark girl with the foxtail very befitting of her likes to jump the gun and get straight to the point. another trait that rio cannot help but admire.
"it is a pleasure to meet you, foxtail. and i am honoured that you would extend such an invitation toward me- one that i can only gladly accept." after speaking in his low toned voice, he dips his jaw down toward the ground, in a silent gesture of thanks. and yet regardless of her invite and the way she is not malicious or defensive, rio cannot help but notice the vague indifferent she has constantly held. something is troubling her, or has troubled her, is the only thing the russet boy can think of. a beautiful girl like her should smile more, laugh more, is what he thinks to himself. and though he says nothing aloud about it, rio makes a silent promise to himself that he will get this new found stranger- almost friend of his- to smile, at least once while he knows her- if not more. he can only try.
who'll have mercy on my soul
