At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

A slender ivory form wandered through Blossom. It was clear from the way she dragged her paws along the dirt that she wasn’t the happiest of creatures. Her claws dug through the dirt, disturbing the inhabitants and pebbles that littered the ground. Her ice blue orbs where fixed on the terrain below, but her auds flickered to the slightest of sounds. She may have looked vulnerable but believe me, she was not a wolf to be messed with. Not in this mood anyway.

Cai had tried her best to stay happy for her one remaining child, Dib, but it was draining to try and keep a smile on your face when there was nothing to smile about. She had been kept somewhat busy lately as the borders were booming with newcomers and Cai had welcomed a pair of siblings only recently. She had also been mentoring a young lass called Mae, who had recently acquired a rank within the pack. Yes, she had been busy and that had helped her stay on top of her emotions but there was something missing. Something that had been missing for many months... Her mate.

The lass thought of the rust coloured male that had stolen her heart and whisked her away. Her love for him had been relatively instant and although her mind tried to slow her down, her heart wanted him. She had vowed to herself that she would do anything for him. Whatever it took to make him happy she would do without hesitation and in all honesty it worked. She loved him more and more everyday and when they had finally decided to start a family of their own, Cai had never been so happy. She loved him with all her heart yet he had disappeared. He had told her that he had some business to attend to out of Blossom, but that had been months ago and the ess missed him dearly. However it wasn’t just Red that she missed. When he had left, three of her beautiful children had gone too. Since then she had lost another two children and now only had one offspring to look after. Dib didn’t need much looking after though. Although she was disabled she had more life and energy in her whole body than Cai did in one of her teeth. The ivory lass knew that she didn’t have to worry about her daughter, so theoretically Cai was on her own.

The fact that Cai could no longer fake a smile forced her away from the pack. The lass didn’t want to be around pack members when she was feeling so low. She knew deep down that talking to someone was probably the best way of snapping her out of this mood, but she didn’t want to see anyone. The only wolf that she wanted was RedRust and he wasn’t here. She didn’t know when he would return and in fact if he would ever return. The thought made a knot of sadness grown in her throat. She didn’t know how she would cope if he never came back. Shaking the thought from her mind the wolfess picked up the pace. She figured that if she found somewhere to rest and explore it would take her mind of things.

The sound of trickling water washed through the white auds of the ess. She turned her cranium to the sound of the water and as if by magic her paws followed. She suddenly found herself becoming very thirsty and the need to drink drove her forward. In no time at all the ess reached the source of the liquid. Her orbs landed on a small clearing where a stair like rock formation had formed. Water trickled down the rocks and landed in small pools at the bottom. The femme padded forward towards the water and dipped her head to the liquid. The water was cool and refreshing and seemed to bring a new batch of life to the ess. Slowly and carefully she climbed the slippery rocks and found a small, dry patch where she could rest. Cai spread her haunches out before her and her belly rested on the rocky ground below. She shifted her weight to make herself more comfortable and curled her tail round her body. She rested her head on her paws and settled in for a long lonely time.
