The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

T errel was suspicious to say the least; the fragrance of his mother was plastered across Henadin. Five minutes into the pack and already he was beginning to ruin the remaining pillars of his life. Of course, the colourful brute knew that it all could have been a misunderstanding but in some way the brute seemed different. Happier, lighter – whatever you wished to proclaim it as. And Channing too seemed cheerier – as if she was pleased that this thief was stealing her dignity! The pack didn’t know him! He was an unpredictable brute, not much older than Terrel! Why was his mother going for such young loners? Why was she even considering a brute that had only joined the pack? And why was Henadin joining him in a task for Abendrot? Surely he would have preferred to go off gallivanting around with his mother. Terrel sighed and told himself that Channing had probably just been soothing him and trying to get him to speak… She would never do that to him. And he would not think bad of either wolf until notified the exact truth. Yes he was selfish and rude but with good reason; anyone could be an enemy – anyone.

Until then, Terrel needed to remain on task. “Come on then Henadin,” he said perhaps a little bit too harshly. He winced – was he really that mean? Sighing, he flicked his head and began to take lead. He would not bring personal matters into a pack task. He needed to remain focused and prove to everyone that he was no longer the boy shuddering in the dark and dingy den. Nothing bad would happen – he still had the agility tactics he had taught himself as a lanky teenager and he now had the muscles to fight. The solider crossed the pack borders; no longer scared of crossing out of the kingdom. “When we reach there,” he began, “you go one way and I’ll go the other – anyone begging for freedom tell them what you know. (He prepared himself to continue but paused and turned back.) Be aware of who you’re talking to. You never know who they might be.” He was not talking down to Henadin, in fact Terrel did not wish any bad to come of him – but he so wished to succeed. He had taken on the dangerous task. And who was he to not put 110 per cent into it?

He took a different route, following a river that if they were cautious, would lead them to the Abendrot pack. They first passed Staircase Falls and happy memories overwhelmed the soldier but soon ceased as Terrel found himself having to dodge between lovey-dovey couples. Romance River; a place where Terrel knew his mother had been a few times. Terrel was relieved to finally get out of that hormonal area, the stench was unbearable! They were looking for different things but none of them could be true love. A one night fling perhaps but it would never last and they would have the fatherless pups to prove for it.

Abendrot pack; he carefully crept along the border. Should he call? No, that would alert the alpha. Terrel’s eyes narrowed as he attempted to spot anyone helpless or seeking an escape but he saw nothing. He turned and nodded to Henadin, a sign of a silent ‘good luck.’ Terrel crept along the border, hoping Henadin was doing the same on the other side. His pillars rose with fickle rhythm, occasionally he stumbled but it came to nothing more than that. He was after only two things: succession and justice. And that, my readers, was what he was exactly going to claim. How awful could a place be? Making sure no one escaped, why did they even doing this? There was not a war or something to trigger this nonsense it was just madness!

Madness – maybe it was. Terrel could imagine the alpha stepping out and portraying himself as a fool but it was not true. Terrel was told that he was a formidable and merciless predator. Something Terrel did not like the sound of. He hoped Henadin was doing okay because he could see nothing. Hopefully some prisoner would appear into view. Or was that a just a naïve dream - where things are offered on silver plates?

“One, two Terrel’s coming for you. Three, four be prepared for war. Five, six better be scared for no fix. Seven, eight this is going to be your fate. Nine, ten we’ll do this all again.” He chanted in a hushed whisper, altering the words on different occasion. Oh yes – the inhabitants of Blossom Forest would see justice.
