Burning ambers peered from the darkness of the den, as my nose sniffed at the crisp midnight air around me. I glanced from side to side before pulling my-self forward and out of hiding. It had been awhile since I had been seen, but this was normal behavior for me when I had pups. Disappearance acts to ensure I couldn’t be found until I wanted to be. The pups in the den were very very valuable assets to me, nothing more. They would ensure Malignant would be safe from Ker, and that was utmost important to me. I quickly moved towards a large pine branch that was stashed nearby. Grabbing the bark with my maw and dragging it to the mouth of the den. Securing the pups didn’t wander out and that if someone came to the den and tried to get in, I would hear it. I wasn’t going far. I just needed food, desperately. I grumbled at my-self and as I stuffed the branch into the entrance. Stay. My voice was harsh and demanding as I peered through the thick branch into the darkness of the den, before I turned away.

Slinking into the midnight I began searching for any sign of food. My stomach driving my feet and my nose guiding me along. I just needed something, hell I would even settle for a rat or field mouse at this time. My frame had grown back small and frale. My ribs were showing slightly under my chocolate coat, which was dull and far from its normal self. It didn’t take long before a rabbit jumped out from the thick brush and took off running, and I was quick to give chase. It only took a few strides before I was close enough to leap forward and snatch it up. I skidded to a halt, instincts taking over as I ravaged the small animal. Immediately I began ripping its fur from its body in a mad dash to get to the warm tender meat. I was starving. It didn’t take long before I got a hole big enough for me to dive my blades into and rip the flesh right off the bone. The warm taste was so welcoming and my stomach was immediately thanking me but demanding more. It didn’t take long before I ate the small meal, leaving nothing but and a head. I pulled my blood covered muzzle up and glanced around, sniffing the air, searching for another hare. I growled softly, coming up with nothing. I took a deep breath in and turned on my heels, moving back towards the den.
I could hear the stream not far and a idea pulled its way into my head. Maybe I could snag up a fish or two and that would get me through another few weeks. So off I went, but not before passing back by the den to ensure nothing had changed, which it hadn’t. I quickly moved towards the stream, the full moon my only light. I quickly darted in and out of the thick underbrush and around the large oaks that were scattered through this part of Malignant. It didn’t take long before I came up on the stream and glanced around. For some reason I didn’t feel alone…at all.
