The soft sound of leaves rustling nearby caught the adult male’s attention. It wasn’t his own snow colored paws that had caused the disturbance but something had. Keegan barely had to scent the air before he pounced on the edge of a small bush. The rabbit had no chance and its soft squeal was cut short with the killing bite to the neck. A victorious grin spread across his features. As if to complain about the last time he ate, his stomach gave a complaining grumble as he picked the prey up in his jaws. Amber soul gates glanced around before deciding on a nearby area to settle down and feast.
A howl interrupted his meal and he realized a challenger had decided to grace their border. It seemed like their time of peace was over. The titan made no move to hurry and answer though. Instead he settled back down and finished the prey he had caught earlier.
Only until his stomach was satisfied did he rise to his pillars and head to the clearing. The wolf could meet him there, and the strong howl he gave informed the challenger of that. His sister wouldn’t be fighting this battle but he would be, and that alone should set fear in the competitor’s heart. He wasn’t as nice and caring for others like Lyra was. No, he cared for himself and his own only; the rest of the world could be dammed.
Keegan was the one making the journey to Quarrels Clearing since his sister was still recovering from the last challenger. The ivory colored titan wasn’t sure if some other pack member would beat him there, but he doubted that from the lack of recent smells. Things had slowed and quieted down in Moondown Shadows but he was sure that it wouldn’t last for long. His sister, the alphess, was a stubborn and devoted creature who cared for the pack and more importantly the individuals in the lands she ruled. This slow period of activity is simply a minor setback while the pack grew back its numbers and their leader healed.
Once inside the clearing he moved to a secluded area that the two could decide this ordeal in. Not with words but with fangs. He had no clue if the challenger was a hunter or huntress, or anything else for that matter, since he hadn’t bothered to go and meet them at the border. Lyra might have done that, but then again this wasn’t Lyra answering the fight. Keegan held no fear or worry, knowing that would only help him lose to this challenger. Instead he held on to the fact that he would win and Lyra would remain the gentle Queen of his family’s home.
This was the part he hated the most though, the waiting process before the fight got started. Keegan had to wait for the other wolf to show up and accept his/her fate. Briefly a grin flashed across his mask at the thought before he became emotionless and silent.
