The other mare’s green gaze seems drawn and faraway to a time Skylar can’t even imagine. What was it that went through the other’s head to keep her attention so? The filly tries to keep her curiosity from sneaking from her graze, to keep her eyes studying the other mare politely but not probing for any clues to what she is thinking of. She even begins to wonder if the champagne has heard her through the voice within her mind when she finally answers.


Skylar doesn’t have to think upon the reason she has to leave, but she isn’t really sure she can explain to this mare that doesn’t seem to be paying much attention anymore. Sighing, she looks down, becoming very intent on her hooves that had carried her many miles in her short lifetime.


“I cannot fight and so I cannot live here. I would not be an asset to the Peak, only a burden.


The painted girl does not realize that fighting is not the only way to make the Peak stronger. Mouse might have mentioned it at some point, maybe during their journey to see her father, but Skylar doesn’t remember. Being raised by a stallion that draws power upon strength, she thinks that her sharp mind is useless if she is not strong enough to physically overpower someone. Thievery would better suit the smart girl if she only knew.
