Can You Hear the Silence

OOC-so I’m going to post in ST about their return to Abendrot and use this as the last post BEFORE they went to Abendrot  After we report to Moth feel free to jump in! And no worries about the post, it’s a good way to start wrapping it up here. And let’s start with just Terrel…Kahlan can meet them when she gets back from her Bright Moon quest. And yayyyyy babies (at a much later date <3 ). Oh and just a warning… Although Henadin has not been OVERLY talkative, he will resort to his normal no words self around others, so Channing should be prepared for him to be stoic once again..

After he had nuzzled the fae’s muzzle, and spoke his brief words of love to Channing, the fae had responded in kind with a smile. And you my love have done the same to me. I will do whatever it takes to make you happy, so long as you will stay with me forever. Although the brute was overjoyed (which was in and of itself a strange feeling, for ‘joy’ was not a common emotion for him), his mind tried to process the end of the fae’s phrase. …so long as you stay with me forever… Why would he not? Why would he ever want to leave her? Why did she think that he would? The brute brooded over his words, remaining silent once more. Though Channing had broken through his stiff exterior, years of silence still remained in his past and the brute was a natural introvert. He thought back to similar things that the fae had said earlier in their conversation, like how most brutes would reject a son not of their blood, and Henadin found himself wondering how many brutes had tried to woo her before he came along, and how many had left her because of Terrel. Or just left her in general. And yet with Henadin, there had been no wooing, for he had no knowledge of it. Somehow his uneducated, stoic, silent self had won himself the affection of the fae before him, and Henadin knew that he would do anything to hold on to her. His grey plume and hackles started to raise, his muscles tensing at the thought of anyone hurting Channing, be it physically or emotionally.

But… who would protect Kahlan? Though she had learned from their mother how to survive, Henadin had watched over her for two years and had saved her on various occasions, either by avoiding human traps or by helping her take down an attacking foe. Who would watch over her if Henadin was off with Channing, protecting her? Henadin snorted. Kahlan would have to find a mate of her own, and that was the long and short of it. She had wanted to find her soul mate for some time now, and now was the time that her wishes should become realized. Henadin would have to approve of course. He would put each suitor through a rigorous test and only the best would suit her. Perhaps he should find one for her, instead of leaving it up to her. He would not force a brute upon her of course, no of course not. But should Henadin find a worthy male… yes, he would most certainly introduce that male to Kahlan.

Suddenly he was brought out of his internal brooding by the faintest raising of his hairs as Channing moved closer to him. The brute nuzzled her once more, reassuring her, and apologizing for his silence. He would have to work harder to resist becoming silent and introverted when it was just the two of them. Although the brute expected that whenever other lupines were around, he would most likely be revert to his norm – silent and resigned. Though he opened up to Channing, he still have no trust for others, and would not allow others to see him the way that Channing was allowed to. “You make me happy, Channing. You do not have to do anything… and of course I will stay with you. I will never leave you. Never.” The brute’s maw showed a small smile. All that remained was to break the news to Terrel and Kahlan. Kahlan would be ecstatic, but the brute was sure that Terrel’s response would not match his sister’s. “Perhaps I should accompany Terrel on the quest to Abendrot. That way, his first impression of me will be his partner on a quest, as opposed to a stranger at his mother’s side. Kahlan can wait… she will love you and will cause no issues. Come, my lady, let us return to Saw Tooth.” The brute turned back the way he came, his own scent a clear path toward Saw Tooth. His muscled haunches scent his limbs into motion. Toward her son. Toward his sister. Toward their pack. Toward home.
