Huntington Presentation

A large crowd showed up for the Huntington presentation. There was a short delay getting in the building but it was open by starting time. Bill Betty gave a great talk, and I opened for him discussing some local sightings and events. I read Dereks message to them about the wildlife people and not showing mountain lion tracks. We took care of that educational piece. Bill showed the recent study that outlines suitable habitat in Massachusetts. Thing is, the sightings match up well with the habitat outlines. Many stories came forth. A show of hands showed that only ONE person of the 85 or so that came did NOT believe mountain lions are present here and now. He stated he was interested, but will believe it when he encounters one. It may not be very long! Its a well known fact to the hilltown people that they are and have been present for decades. One resident recalled a story that I had some vague memory of when I was very young. Namely, one town in the hills had issues with cougars killing livestock, and put up a bounty. Apparently a couple were killed, and hung up for display in the center of town. I remembered that I thought, but this older gent confirmed it for me. It was in the late 1950s. Thanks to all those that attended and made it an interesting evening.
