Although Kahlan had glanced at Spark and paused, waiting to see if the brute would address the Alpha, he had remained silent. Perhaps he had decided to try and talk to their lady Moth more instead of talking to the brute Alpha before them. The fae wished that she hadn’t spoken so soon and had allowed Spark the chance to say the first words to the Alpha – perhaps he was only silent now because Kahlan had spoken first. But the past had happened, and she had taken advantage of the moment to speak to the Alpha herself.
The alpha was a polite, albeit frigid being. He had remained still while Kahlan had spoken, and his response had come quickly. Your lady’s proposition hold interest to me, I would be much obliged if you would relay a message to her. Could you inform Alphess Moth that I would like to meet with her? Anytime at her leisure would be appropriate. Kahlan dipped her head in acknowledgement of the Alpha’s words. Although at first she was surprised that he had not outright accepted the alliance, for Kahlan had heard that a previous alliance had existed between the two packs, the fae thought about his words and changed her thoughts. It was a wise move, to not agree to an alliance without knowing the finer points of what such an alliance would mean. The brute’s request for them to ask Moth to meet with them did not surprise Kahlan either. He clearly wanted to keep the negotiations between himself and Moth, cutting out the middle man. Kahlan smiled, knowing that his words – that his request – was also a dismissal of them. They had delivered Moth’s message, now it was time to deliver Tamlin’s message to their Alphess.
The fae thought about pausing and allowing Spark to speak, but she wished more that she and him could return to Saw Tooth and report to Moth. She was anxious to return home. She missed her brother dearly. The last that she had seen of him, she had sent him off to Romance River in hopes that he would meet a mate. She had very low hopes of such a thing happening, but she had hoped that he would at least try to socialize. He no doubt was back at the pack, pacing, impatiently waiting for Kahlan to return. Worrying about her and what danger she would get herself into. He was a bit over protective of her, but she loved her brother dearly. And so, the fae opened her maw to reply to the Alpha herself.
“We shall surely do so, and will relay your message to her Lady Moth posthaste. We thank you for your time.” The fae straightened herself up, though keeping her tail respectfully lowered. One forepaw extended forward, and the fae bowed to him, thanking him again for seeing them, before the fae turned to travel back the way that they had come.
