The moon hung low and heavy, her pale fingers illuminating the thickly forested terrain and making night time travel much easier. Silver moonlight filtered through the leaves, painting a dappled trail along the forest floor. The silver mare picked her way carefully along the mottled path, her pale blue eyes focused on the unseen monsters that lurked beyond the moonlight. Each uncertain rustle, ominous snap or crunch was something that was for sure going to lunge out into the light and eat the badger faced mare.
Logan stopped and tossed her head, ridding her vision of her pale forelock so she could better see the monsters. But even without the distraction of her tangled hair, the monsters in the trees still alluded her and she forced herself to hurry onward. The dark was not a place Logan cared to find herself. Ever. There were monsters and creepy crawlies in the dark. Things that ate horses lived in the darkness. Right?
There had to be a clearing up ahead. It’s what she continued to tell herself as she hurried through the trees. She paid no mind to the branches that reached out, grabbing at her, tugging on her long, silver hair. When she finally broke free of the damned forest, her mane and tail were full of small, broken branches, dead leaves and other debris, lending her a wild child sort of look. She stared, wide eyed, at the various bodies about the clearing, catching her breath and patting herself on the back for outwitting the monsters. Again.
But now what?
