News - SUMMER

Summer has arrived. The world has been well at peace, and others seem to be trying to take advantage. They believe we are lazy and complacent. We are no such thing. Remain vigilante, friends and family.

Give your congratulations to Maiko. She has been promoted to Blizzard; she earned it.

We also have an activity check going. Please reply so I can make adjustments accordingly. Check will go for an entire month so we can hopefully capture everyone.

As always, if you have need of me, do not hesitate to find me.

you're gonna miss me when i'm gone

She had not had time to find a large enough den to hold all the mothers of Diveen until a few of them had already given birth - but just as her own body told her it was time, that she needed to be swift in her search, she found herself traveling in the maze of canyons. A spire cut out by the deceptively easy flowing river, then a cave of many directions and holes, then down into a flat bottomed crevice that was nicely leafy and she heads to the flow of water. These are the landmarks that she would remember to bring her here. She is big as a barrel and the going it truly even difficult for her years-readied paws, but once she finds it, it is a paradise to behold. She can imagine what it looks like from the outcroppings, what it looks like from above... but no wolf from the topside would reach this oasis. No wolf that did not traverse the myriad of canyon rock formation caves, that did not know the right caves to travel by, would reach this place. And it was perfect. More secluded than any den she could have found by herself, holes opened on the cliff faces, holes burrowed out and then abandoned by a once more massive flow of many waters. She looks out from the shore of a gloriously blue pool where a great steady waterfall had collected the smaller rivers into one. It would flow forever and it brought life down to this secret - though viewable - getaway.

She had disappeared for days, had eaten lizards and desert mice to make do... And now all of her work was coming to fruition. The foliage provided shade, the canyon style of rock funneled a glorious breeze, the waterfall provided water, and the water provided easier prey - small though they were. This would be it. This would be the Mother's Den and Nursery that she had promised Isola to find. So it would not birth the heir of Diveen. This place would be special for its own merit, then. She smiles, heart suddenly bubbling with joy -- and yet there is an emptiness to this discovery too. No one with whom she can share it - no one there to rejoice with her. She feels the tug of her soul then, lost in the hunt to find the right place at the right time. Yojimbo. She wants to see Yojimbo. She feels her throat tighten in a whine and her tail ceases its once jubilant wagging. She wanted him to see.

And yet she knows she cannot, she will not be able. It is lucky that it is spring and she sheds her springtime fur in bulk - a week of grooming settling her coat to suit the arid climate of the desert plateau and badlands. She had been wise, had left a trail of her scent coming down into the canyon maze so that she could find her way out - and those she would show later could find their way in. Once those who needed to know the way in knew, it would become a mystery to any invaders, to anyone who meant harm to the young of Diveen. No wolf, no matter how good they could track, would be able to scent off bare stone where wind constantly sheered away scents. The rock was not porous and would not keep a scent like it could snag fur. But where to make the den. Ah! The large cul de sac. Of course!

She finds fine grasses, soft leaf litter, and carries it with care to the sandy floor of the great cavern that might once have suited as a basin within the rock until the water carved away the flow too far for water to ever flood the great inner room again. The walls wiggled and cut small little corners and cul de sacs into the great room so that it was like partitioned rooms without cutting off from the center expanse, too many to ever be filled. This room could be the nursery! A little alley in the rock led to secluded dead ends and the like where private birthing or naps could take place. It was a veritable mansion of den sites and birthing capacity. All with herbs and plants for healing right outside the archway that led to both the waterfall, the oasis, and the thickets on the canyon floor.

Her bedding is placed in a deep private den, one that let in the light of the nighttime sky from a hole to the uppermost plateau. It hooked in a half moon opening, the little bit of overhang sure to prevent soaking if it rained, but giving enough view to see the stars and bask in the moonlight. A smooth guiding ramp led up to the surface, though it led to a den too secluded from the inner sanctum to be a detriment to the safety of the secrecy if strangers stumbled upon it or followed Yojimbo up the plateau and down into here. A little dip in the sand where water might sometimes collect is surrounded by a little desert grass, semi green from the recent rain - prepared to awaken when it rained once more. She plucks some of this as well and digs a little into the cooler sand to place the cushion of plants within it. The basin, she realizes, is close to the surface plateau, is within reach of future fathers, and yet defensible enough that it was still no easy task to find the basin. Not even the devil himself could machinate a way into the inner sanctum without the help of those who knew the path. They would teach the men and elders to get here - but the more private dens were well within the maze, not to mention the arch leading to the waterfall. That would be for the mothers and pups alone - viewable by the pack and such from above, but accessed only by the children and females. She smiles. This was a sanctuary for mothers and children.

Mothers would raise the pups of Diveen together, as if all were siblings under the great sky. They would teach and nurse in unison and in complete protection. Pompeii is glad as she lays upon her little private bed, glad to have done so well in her duty to find a way to protect Diveen by protecting Diveen's future. She would fight as a mother ought, and in a few days she would show Yojimbo what he had created. Had created with he--- it starts and she whines, groaning and slapping her head flat into the sand with a whimper. The pup is large and it takes a veritable lifetime to push him out - but she is frantic that he live - for she had seen mothers give birth to those that did not wake and she fretted needlessly - tiring herself with worry as she tired further with the effort of giving birth. With a pull and a sigh, she feels the pup drop to the bedding of her fur, leaves, and sand - licking the bright body clean and eating away the sack that had held him within her. He mewls as her tongue massages breath into his lungs and she sees that he is bright as the cream of her body, strange that he so resembled her mother and brother in color. On his head was the gray of her father, the black of Yojimbo between the gray and from his nose to behind his ears. On his eyebrows paws and throat and belly and tail tip was the white of Yojimbo's marks and her own points. His single forepaw has the white rimmed in that silvery gray... And she wonders what had inspired the mark. Was there something the stars were telling her? And she realizes she has been licking the boys brow now for some time, the red never once failing. She tilts her head, confused and looks. Smack between his brows of black is a bright red star, bigger and more bold than even the mark of his father.
