Susil Crags

Disaster has struck!
The Crags are a series of rocky formations with small caves and crevices throughout. Many of the lower-lying areas of the Crags have been flooded, however, with water pouring in from the Northern stretches of Moladion. Some paths have been completely submerged, and some are nothing more than a few rocky peaks sticking out of the water. The water is fairly slow moving but begins to pick speed up towards the Grotto, becoming a series of intense rapids and waterfalls as it nears the Grotto's entrance.

The area itself is still traversible. However, it can be risky. Large amounts of debris can enter the waterway, creating bridges at times but also creating dams that break and cause ocassional flash-flooding. Be careful, travelers! One wrong step and you could end up finding out where the water goes.

At Malina’s friendly greeting to the stranger, Fathom relaxed and stole the opportunity to sit down. Exhaustion drew her toward sleep even as she reclined onto her haunches, reminding her of how tired she truly was. She hadn’t had any kind of reprieve since she’d faced the demon, no rest to speak of, and she fought the urge to lie down on the warm stone beneath her feet. Sensing no animosity between them, she drifted in and out of the conversation between Malina and her friend, her politely averted eyes struggling to stay open.

Her mind wandered. It jumped across the crater and back to Diveen, where a warm, snug den waited for her. It remembered Brooke, the healer, who might alleviate the pain in her shoulder. It thought about dinner, promising to quell the grumbling in her stomach. But there was something else brooding in the recesses of her memories, and it crawled rapidly into focus, black eyes locked on hers.

Her head snapped up - she’d been dozing - and she was violently overwhelmed by the familiar stink of the demon. The other two hadn’t noticed it yet, lost in pleasantries, and she barely had time to scramble to her feet before he appeared at the stranger’s side. At least he hadn’t caught her half-asleep. He drew himself against the female as if to suggest some camaraderie, and a low growl gathered itself in the back of Fathom’s throat; she became immediately suspicious of her again.

But he drew all of her attention; she couldn’t spare any for the strange female now. His black eyes swallowed her whole. His low voice turned her hunger into a churning illness and she found herself quite incapable of speech. Though she had done her best to keep the panic off her face, her jaws clenched in anxiety and discomfort as she forced herself to keep the weight on her bad leg. She couldn’t let him see the damage he’d done. Malina spoke out, unfazed by his serpentine appearance into their gathering, and she feared for her packmate.

Malina’s eyes pleaded with her to run, to get away...but how could Fathom abandon her now? What if her friend couldn’t be trusted? What if she and the demon were together? And if she ran, he would definitely see the limp, the weariness in her gait; she knew he had a taste for weakness and the memory of her blood on his tongue. No. They were pack now, something like friends, even, and she wouldn’t leave Malina here. She stood firmly at her side, counting her breaths in an effort to stay calm.
