At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Her orbs were a dark blue, like the ocean on a wintry day. Her kissers parted, and the fae smiled, exposing her pearls. Her sweet voice followed: No little one, I’m not an angel. Though she denied it, the pup still had his suspicions. Still blinded by the blaring light of the sun, he jumped as he felt a cold, wet nose nudge him. Are you okay? Her voice was soft, like the whisper of the wind through the trees, though her touch did lend to her statement that she wasn’t of the ethereal plane. He felt her raspy tongue run over his cranium once more, and it was so soothing, so comforting. Once she stopped, Zorion rolled over, a few pieces of gravel sticking to his still slightly damp grey pelt. From this angle, the sun wasn’t directly behind the fae, and he could see her true form – it was crimson, not golden. He cocked his head at her, his audettes perking up at her words. I’m Kenina. I guess I get it. My mother left my father to raise us and now she’s back and trying to worm her way back in. But, if you want, I could take care of you. Zorion was left speechless – was the fae offering him a new life, a new home? The pup smiled, but couldn’t make his vocals form words, so all that came out was an incoherent string of sounds.

His muddied orbs watched the fae move to his side and sit beside him, and slowly the pup raised his bodice from the earth to mimic her body motions. As he sat, he trembled, still cold from his adventures in the frigid waters. Slowly, he moved closer to the fae until he was snuggled up tightly against her warm pelt. Where do you live, Zorion? Because I was thinking that we could find ourselves a pack to live in. If you wanna live with me, that is. There it was again – an offer for a new life. The fae smiled at him, and he smiled back at her. “I don’t live anywhere… I’m all alone. And I’d love to come live with you! You already saved me once… I know you say you aren’t an angel, but you are my guardian angel!” The pup leapt up toward the fae’s cranium, trying to muzzle against her maw. “Where are we going to live, Kenina?
