RHAEGAR & SOLGAR

"I won' bother you none," he had promised, and with that, Blitzen had allowed him to stay a few days. And Jack had kept his promise. The silver-tailed stallion was infectiously friendly, for which Jack was grateful, but their age difference was so large that he often worried they might not have anything to talk about should Jack attempt to start a real conversation. Besides, there was something about the younger stallion - perhaps it was his childish laugh, or the spring in his step, or the fact he had no lady friends to fill the thicket with - that made Jack wonder if he was one of those men, the sort whose activies made Jack's gut clench tight with discomfort.

And so he had deliberately been leaving Blitzen alone, using whatever excuse he could muster to avoid talking to him. He explored the thicket some, admiring what the slow but sure change of the seasons did to the land, and occasionally stood on the beach, looking out over the choppy grey waters, remembering. Other times he slept the day away, to make the time pass quicker. It was hard forcing himself to be aloof, for Jack was a sociable creature who thrived on interaction. Which is why, after musing over it for hours upon hours, and watching Blitzen from a distance with thoughtful blue eyes, Jack knew he had finally had enough of the silence. Blitzen seemed to have a good head on his shoulders, and winter was fast encroaching. Besides, Meraki had been about his age, and they'd been the best of friends.

He meandered through the trees, his heavy pale body making a racket as he brushed past bare branches, snapped twigs, and crushed crisp golden leaves beneath his wide hooves. He made for the last place he had seen Blitzen, and sure enough, he was there: but not alone, it seemed. Jack could hear the gentle lilt of a female voice mingling with Blitzen's from up ahead. He pursed his lips thoughtfully, but he wasn't about to stop now: stepping free of the trees, he made himself known to the duo with a low whicker and a bob of his heavy head. Thorns and leaves were tangled in his white mane, but otherwise he looked more well-rested than he had been when he'd arrived in the thicket. He smiled brightly at the pretty young mare. Immediately he could tell from her body language that she knew Blitzen; were they just friends, he wondered, or something more? Jack was very curious now.

"Pardon my intrusion," he said with a gentle twang in his deep voice. "I didn't realize ol' Blitzen here had company." He turned to the stallion with a wicked smile. "I were wonderin' if I could have a moment of your time, but with such a beauty in our midst, I don' see why it can't wait." Jack eyed the mare appreciatively.
