Being the son of a shamaness, Sleekwing had a tendency to notice subtle signs in the elements that told him something of importance was happening. It was the slight twitch of a blade of grass that helped him balance himself before launching into the hunt. The minuscule changes in weather that his mother had taught him to recognize which told of a terrible storm brewing. Ratiocination did not always play a part; instincts and gut feelings usually took precedence. Today it was the rays of sun that warmed his pelt to just the right temperature to tell him spring had arrived, and with it the coming of his newest sibling.

As evening encroached upon the land, casting long shadows across the mountain, the gray beast made his way through the territory towards his parents’ den. The subconscious feeling that stirred within his chest drew him to the small clearing that housed the cave where the two leaderwolves laid their heads to rest each night. He knew that this was a time for family, a time for togetherness and kinship and, above all else, love. This was an important event, the day when a precious new addition would join their numbers. The birth of the new hope of Moladion, the future of the mountain blooded wolves who had once called Solevion home, and now scaled the heights of Spirane in the aftermath of all the loss they had suffered. They were truly a lucky family, even to have been separated in the traumatic turn of events that had torn their home asunder. Two boys raised without a father, a sister who left them to roam the lands as a gypsy, even a young girl who had lost her own family. But they had all been brought back together, reunited as a whole even in the loss of the foundation of their heritage.

Clearly he was not the only one who had been drawn forth to this pivotal moment in his family’s timeline. Even as he crested a small ridge and gazed upon the edge of the cavern, he saw Swallowbane, Alcide, and Ceal approach as well. Paws swiftly carried him across the clearing to the mouth of the den. Once he arrived, he drew even with his brother and touched shoulders with him. He then lowered his head, both in respect for his parents and to greet Ceal with a tender of his nose into her shoulder. Lilac rimmed azure eyes looked into the depths of the cave, hoping to catch a glance of his new baby sister. His tail wagged slowly behind him, excited by the newest addition to the ranks of the star pack – and certainly she would shine the brightest of them all.
