The Cavern of Secrets holds much more than you can imagine. Once a forbidden place, the ban on entrance has been released...yet, is it a good idea to enter?

Once a great battle had been fought in this cavern, against a dark beast that had once - and still might - dwell here. No one knows where he disappeared to, but there are rumours...

Athene sighed, realizing that the brute had probably not heard her call when she had sensed the draft in the cavern. The problem with being a mostly silent wolf was that when she did choose to speak or release her vocals at all, she tended to be quiet. And in such a large cavern, unless she called loud enough her bark would just be lost in the great abyss of darkness. Her audettes flickered at the sound of the approaching brute, and then came his vocals.Miss? Miss? Athene smiled, realizing her err in judgment – the brute was one of the good ones, and because she had not shared with him the secret of her dubbance, he naught else to call her but ‘miss’. Her honey eyes widened as her pupils dilated, accustoming themselves to the darkness of the sub-cavern that she had discovered. Her audettes took in the sound of claws upon rock, and she glanced up, seeing a slight outline of the brute’s form as he scrambled down the steep wall.

The fae took advantage of the darkness that surrounded her and crept up to the brute until she was next to his auds. “Athene. My name is Athene.” The fae moved away, her pink tongue trembling slightly from the lack of rhythm to her words. It was the first time that she had broken verse in all of her years. Talking in rhyme had come naturally to her – her pack had resided unnaturally close to a human farm, and she had often adventured toward the farm and had listened to the maid read nursery rhymes to the little boy. Athene had picked up on the natural sway of the stories and had copied it as soon as her vocals began to work.

As the fae moved away from the brute, the adrenaline that had been pumped through her veins due to the fall began to drain, and she noted a growing pain her side. Her pink tongue, still trembling, crept out as her cranium turned toward her rib cage. Its rough surface caught at her pelt and lapped up the irony tinge of blood, an electric pain accompanying it. Athene remained silent, not allowing any cry of distress to escape her kissers. It was but a flesh wound, a superficial injury that would bleed for a while but would eventually close. It would probably cause a scar, but no permanent damage was done.
While looking for the staircase hidden
I tread forward carefully and with due caution
But then a breeze drifted into my nares
One that was fresh and caused them to flare.
My step grew more confident which caused me to fall
Through the above hole in the wall.
Could the staircase dwell within this cavern,
Or to the previous one should we return?

Athene fell silent, her olfactories taking in the scents around them as she awaited the response from the brute. The breeze had definitely come from this lair – thought it carried upon it a brackish scent, probably due to stagnant puddles or the rotting corpses of cage dwellers. The fae’s sense of adventure hid the pain of her wound as she thought about where their next destination may be.
