aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The sun was dipping behind the clouds. It cast long pink and orange shadows deep behind the horizon. A wolf stood out in the open, watching in amazement as the orange and pink turned her face fur into an orange ebony color. Her ears were pinned back, and she blinked a couple times so she could still look at the sky. Her fur was a lush black, gleaming into the shadows as a shadow itself, never again to be seen again if the vixen didn’t herself to be. But she had a mate, Glitch. Her mind focused on him for a minute and the day they met. They were young and naive then, refusing to believe anything could go wrong. Magic made a mistake a couple days after, and it pained her to even think that she did it. What had crossed her mind? Her head started to hurt with the pain of remembering the event. She turned back towards towards the sun that was almost pretty much gone. Had the sun always disappeared behind the mountains that fast?

She was in her pack lands; thick lush forests with grassland patched here and there only about as big a clearing. Otherwise, all forest. Aurora Borealis. The green lights appeared a lot for her, since she was up at night always. Sometimes she stayed up for the day, but she would never miss out on a night. The black vixen was currently located at the very edge of a clearing so she could look up at the sky. She had been alone for awhile, and she wanted that to end. Where had Glitch gone again? Never mind that. She wanted to speak with him about something; about the two of them. She would seek him out tonite in order to ask her question. She disappeared back into the forest, her tail glinting in the shadowed leaves of the undergrowth before her silence replaced where her body had once been; her scent would only linger. She gently placed each foot in front of the other, finally glad that she was finally an older member of the pack. Of course, not one from the beginning or whatever. She had been there for a matter of months, and that was the only thing that mattered to her.

She was journeying towards her rock. She had gone their first after the meeting was over when she first came to the pack. Of course, it was choosing a new leader, and that was Kalgalath. He was leading well; the public that was so few had chosen wisely. She lifted her cranium towards the sky and inhaled, taking in the scent of the forest. She stopped. What was that she scented? She had smelled it before, however only once. Who was it again...Kong! King Kong! She smiled brightly and her face lighted up; he had decided to return! And Zig was with him. She needed to get to know the both of them better. Like a knowing crack in the night, a howl split through the air, calling for herself and for her leader, Kal. Glitch. She smiled. She turned tail towards the direction of the border with eagerness. Now she would be able to discuss the business she thought was necessary now. She slipped through the sharp thorns of the undergrowth, knowing which direction it grew so she wouldn’t catch her pelt.

She had already come close to the border and she could scent something new. She stopped and inhaled before she took another step. The black vixen could tell it was a female from this distance, but not anything else. She flicked an ear. No wonder he had called for Kal and her at the border; he had brought another pack member to the lands. She smiled, knowing that he was wise. However, she couldn’t help but feel a sting in her heart. It was just another female, just another. Her pads made no noise as she padded forward towards Glitch and the new vixen. She didn’t inhale again since she knew that she was almost there. She could hear them talking in the distance. She chanced a glance upward, and saw the tinge of green in the sky. Her heart lurched, and she smiled. The beautiful Aurora caught her orb, and she felt a reassurance. She appeared through the trees, first as a shadow but then the lines of her body showed within the trees and the small clearing. Magic bit back a yelp of surprise and took back her thoughts from earlier. It was only a pup, small and actually quite pretty. Wait, that could only mean...

“Hello, my love. It is nice to see you once again.” He looked down at the pup and saw her eyes gleaming, and it made her smile brighten. “Who is this?” She said it kindly, but not one of those smiles that looks down and only peers into the mind and future of a reckless creature. She saw nothing of her future, which she always knew she needed to do before she judged a wolf. It wasn’t a babysitter’s smile either. It was her normal glint of daggers; filled with love and compassion, understanding and equality. She flashed a look back up at the stars, and felt the smile of her very true and only companions.
