Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

So her unease in this place was that obvious? She refrained from grimacing as Dante called her on the lie, instead tilting her head and swinging her ears forward good-naturedly. Her natural charms seemed to be working their magic, because he suddenly felt comfortable enough to move in her direction; he was comfortable enough to enter her personal space; he was comfortable enough to lick her face. She stood up nervously as he came toward her, struggling to maintain her welcoming smile. It faltered when his body heat came close, and collapsed completely when his tongue touched her cheek.

She pulled herself together before he could see her face again, though she didn’t return the gesture. “Thank you, Dante,” she said pleasantly, relieved that he was giving her time to think. She couldn’t really think of a situation in which she would call him to her side, but her gratitude was genuine, and it showed. She waved her tail in goodbye and cautiously watched him go, hardly daring to believe her good fortune. Just like that, he was gone, leaving her alone in the quiet clearing with nothing but her thoughts for company.

Her thoughts and a young, albeit rather large, bear.

He ambled toward her through the trees from behind, crushing brush and leaf alike as he went, picking up speed when his eyes fell on her. The sight of his rapid approach demolished any relief she had been feeling, and she had barely started to run when he gave her rump a playful swat, sending her skidding through the dirt. Her hip was bloodied but not badly damaged, and the shock of her new situation brought her quickly to her feet.

She shook uncontrollably. Even if the bear only wanted to play, he would quickly kill her, and she was not a strong fighter. In a moment of pure panic and adrenaline, she screamed at the top of her lungs; she did the one thing she didn’t want to do. “Wait! WAIT! PLEASE!” True, she wasn’t shouting his name, but she desperately wanted him to hear her, she wanted anyone to hear her.
