The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

"Argh!" I curse under my breath as I rip one of my fore claws, the blood pooling up from around the nail but I'm not concerned with it. No time to be. I continue digging trenches, the feeling of activity in Abendrot clicking up a notch or two all around me. The wolf Winn Dixie that had run off to collect others comes back with a teen I've never met before and she starts digging trenches again but I smell him before I see him, even in all this rain. It's more like I can feel him than anything. My head snaps up and my eyes find his, staring into them as if my life depends on it. He focuses on me for a moment or two and then suddenly he's in action. He runs down the river and I find my eyes watching him greedily, as if afraid to loose sight of him. When he jumps into the water, I tense up immediately, a whimper of surprise and distress racing across my face as I find myself running to the banks of the bloated river, looking restlessly for his form until I find him. He starts moving around logs and such and I wince every time a stray log hits him or a branch scratches against his hide. He grabs on at one point as if it's a life or death matter and panic rises in my throat like bile. He starts jumping from log to log but I can see it's hurting him. My heart is in my throat until he reaches the bank and then he's shaking off. I can smell his blood even diluted by all the water and I want to take him somewhere private and clean him up right now but I know there's no time for that. He starts digging and I go to help but my claw catches and I hiss through my teeth in pain, holding it up as if glaring at it will heal it miraculously. When I look up from my paw, Marx is running toward me, shouting at everyone to get to high ground. This is usually when I'd have something witty and sarcastic to say back but not today. I nod, my lips tight as my eyes sweep over his wounded body. Finally I spin away and start racing up the hill, holding my paw up every few steps to keep it from catching. I feel his nose in my fur and I take comfort from it, wishing I could lean on him but knowing now is not the time. I look around to see who else is coming. I can make out Ruhani and the teen Winn Dixie was with running with us. She calls out to AutumnLeaf who I also see coming and Winn Dixie as well. I turn back, focusing on Marx and nothing else. Once we find high ground, I sit down panting, putting as little weight on my wounded paw as possible.
