The grey titan was resting, lying down beneath the shadow of the trees in an unclaimed area of Blossom Forest. He had been living in the area for a while now, debating how he wanted to introduce himself to the world. He had seen all the different packs that the lupines could try to join, some he liked better than others. He knew that he could join a pack easily, but just joining a pack was not what he wanted. His father had raised him on how to be an alpha, a leader. His father had been an alpha himself before he left to adopt Grey Wind and take him in, so he knew he was more than capable of leading a pack. Grey Wind rose from his spot amongst the leaves, shaking his thick grey fur to get the dirt and loose leaves out of it. The brute stretched his legs, feeling his joints come to life as he did so.
A leader, that’s what I was born to be, Grey Wind thought as he wandered through the trees. The brute had made a decision: to travel to a pack and challenge for the position of alpha. It had not been an easy decision; he had been debating it for a few moons now, not wanting to rush into a decision as important as this, and yet he now knew exactly what pack he wanted to challenge: Bright Moon. He had always observed the packs throughout Blossom Forest, wanting to know what was going on, even if he wasn’t directly involved and had not seen much of the alpha of Bright Moon, Tamlin, recently. The silver titan was concerned for that pack’s members. Grey Wind had observed a few wolves at the border, some trying to join the grey brute assumed, yet it took a lot of time for someone to come and greet them, if anyone greeted them at all. And for the strangers at the border that were attended to, it was never by Tamlin. There had been an incident with some pups and wolves of another pack, and the alpha never made an appearance, something that Grey Wind thought was not right.
Grey Wind knew how a pack should be run. Strangers should not be left waiting long at the borders and alphas should not disappear without leaving a Beta to actively rule in their absence. The brute could understand that an alpha would be busy running a pack and would not always be the first to arrive at a scene to greet strangers at the border, but he had not seen Tamlin in a while. He was confident that he could take over for Tamlin and lead the pack well. He liked that other wolves were interested in joining and that the pack was not dead, but he felt he could make the pack thrive to its full potential. It saddened him that there were so many lupines within the pack and yet they were so quiet.
The silver brute made his way to the borders of Bright Moon, reaching them quickly with his long muscular legs. As he reached the borders edge, he tilted his his maw backward and loosened his chords, letting out a howl. This was not a howl to join, this was a challenging howl, one that called to Tamlin, to come and answer his challenge for alpha. He stood as he waited to see if anyone would answer his call, his tail and head held high, fur bristling at the thought of the impending fight.
