Dimas shifted, a rather odd feeling settling over him, like when you know you’ve forgotten something, you just have absolutely no idea what it could be. His grey-blue eyes shift over the land in front of him, trying to see if there was some predator causing his unease. There! In the distant shadows under the trees, he caught movement.
When she appeared from the shadows, the entire world froze. Well, it was already frozen being winter, but it was as if time itself stopped. He could hear nothing from the other wolves around him, only the crunch of snow under her paws, only the gentle puffs of air visible in the frigid air. Without his noticing it, he had turned, oriented toward her. She was…everything. He had no other ways to describe the feeling he had. She was simply everything that mattered. He had to speak with her.
Slowly, with a focus that was practically trancelike, he walked toward her, the usual bubbly energy significantly lacking in his posture. Had she noticed his behavior before he saw her, the change was so dramatic that he practically seemed to be a separate entity. He was simply too overrun with the absolute need to meet this female that his exuberance had been replaced with awe for her.
He reached the wooded area where she stood and stopped a respectable distance from her. Now that he was here, he was suddenly shy. It was most unlike him. Usually he was so energetic people were begging him to shut up.
“I –” he started and then stopped, trying to collect himself somehow. “Hello.”
He finally raised his blue eyes to meet hers, and the world seemed to freeze again. But that wasn’t right. The feeling wasn’t cold or isolating. It was warm. It was almost like the belonging he had felt with his family. He didn’t feel lonely with her.
“I’m Dimas.”
