no he podido escaparme al sabor del infierno
que estoy viviendo ahora

Something was wrong, that much was immediately apparent. Sperantia had been connected with Mallos for many years now, and while (to her frustration) she did not yet know him as well as she could, but she could proudly claim to know him better than any other living person. He held himself differently, and the expression on his face as she approached was, while not uncharacteristic of Mallos generally, also not the expression Sperantia was used to seeing when he greeted her. When he acknowledged her approach at all, he was usually neutral or positive. Ordinarily, if she annoyed him, he retaliated verbally, ignored her or departed the room. She mirrored his expression by narrowing her eyes in response.

At his words, an instantaneous fury overcame here and she puffed up like a blowfish, throwing her chest out and fluffing her tail. Sperantia was a large cat but slender cat usually, and when she puffed out she resembled a bulky European tom. A thousand admonishments and insults rose to the tip of her tongue, but they died just as swiftly as they’d come when he elaborated. Needed at the palace? The use of the word palace struck her – Mallos always called it the castle, probably because he didn’t deem it comfortable enough (by his standards) to class as a palace – but the implication caused her to ignore the oddity. Since the Aurans had come to Shaman threatening to cart Thoth away, Mallos had established a telepathic link between himself and the king in order to provide protection for the latter against psychic attacks. Secondary to its primary purpose as a defence mechanism, it also enabled the two men to communicate telepathically. If Mallos was needed at the castle, Arthur must have called him there – and Sperantia knew Arthur well enough to know that he wouldn’t have resorted to using the link unless it were an emergency. She shook her pelt so that her hairs fell back into place, crouched low against the ground and sprung onto his shoulders. The pair of them teleported instantly to the castle grounds.

Nothing was visibly out of place, at first glance, but something was definitely up. For a start, why would Mallos close the psychic link with her but maintain the one with Arthur? The nicer part of Sperantia wanted to believe that that was for a good reason, but in reality she just felt miffed. She was his familiar. Mallos couldn’t adopt a king as an alternative familiar, whether he wanted to or not, although she wouldn’t put it past him to try. There wasn’t a lot Sperantia would put past Mallos. She jumped back off his shoulders and eyeballed him.

“What’s going on?” She shot at him in a firm, no-nonsense voice. Ordinarily if there was an emergency Sperantia trusted Mallos to lead the way, and call on her when he needed her – but, ordinarily, she could also see what the emergency was in his mind. “What does Arthur want?”
