Delicate paws stretched out into the morning air, and I could feel my toes curling in the cool breeze. Their blunt nails were a hazelled color, worn to dull points from the endless walking that is my life. But a moment's rest had come upon me, and I was comfortabley lain in the smooth disc of weather-beaten rocks. It had been a warm and peaceful night's sleep, one of my first in a long time. Nature was finally giving me a break, it seemed.
I rose up, my stocky, pure white coat protecting me from the endless winds that rushed about the mountain. I had chose a ledge at the base of the mountain, giving a look out onto the vast forests while the bulk of the cliffs rose behind me like a sleeping giant. I padded to the edge and peered out, stretching my mouth into a yawn. Somewhere, out past the lake, lay Abendrot. It was still considered 'home' for me, but not in the emotional sense that drew so many of it others. Still I felt the tug, and knew that soon I would reenter. Though this action always flung nervousness into my stomach. Was I still accepted? I had never meant it to be like this. If it wasn't for him, I would still be tucked away into the deep woods, coming out to only aid with the wounded. A perfect job for someone who didn't exactly have the best social upbringing. Still, I wondered who the reintroduction would happen. Hopefully, I would slip back in unnoticed. My time away was a forced one, and not to be ever discussed. Who knew what I could do to my reputation?
The sounds of morning were beginning to stir, and I stepped away from the cliff and lifted my skull, receptors perked to listen. The dull, soft drone of insects were spreading their dewy wings into the cold sunlight, rising up from the leaves of the trees. Birdsong was sparse and scattered, but they were lifting themselves on black wings out into the air. It was a pleasant summer sight and I sat back down, sprawling my haunches across cool stone.
