aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

The dark eboness moved to his side, lending him her strength silently as she took in the entire confusing family reunion. His icy gaze shifted to Magic and almost smiles as he sees her trying to keep herself under wraps, and succeeding, her hackles not even raised. It was an awkward situation for her to be in, especially since Kalgalath himself had been unaware that there was a family to speak of. A single sob is brought to his auds, and his arctics swivel to once more land upon Nika, the fae clearly distraught at the situation they were in. These wolves are every bit your children. Look at them, how could they not be? Kalgalath could not help but agree with her, and then she spoke of Aindreas, and the brute felt his heart sink with guilt. He had failed the white pup more than even he knew. You may hate me, but if you must, I beg you to do so silently. The brute felt torn – this was his first love, the one who had gotten away. He could never hate her. And that love he had felt slowly ate away at his anger that was boiling just below the surface. Not anger, for as he looked at Nika’s face, he realized that he understood why she had left, though he did not agree with her reasoning. But a profound sadness… yes, that was it. A deep profound sadness lay in his chest as he came to realize that he had missed out on having a family of his own. If only he had tracked her down…

The brute… his son… had spoken then, his vocals ones of anger and betrayal. Kalgalath felt bad that the wolves before him, along with Aindreas, had ultimately grown up without a father, and felt like a hypocrite. The brute had always been so strongly sure that the worst wolves were those who abandoned their offspring. Though he had had no knowledge of them, the guilt still fell over him like a blanket. And then, to make it all worse, that was when Aindreas had chosen to make his entrance, his icy gaze laying upon Kalgalath when he neared, before dipping his head in greeting to Rohan. Kalgalath’s cranium tilted – they had, apparently met, and were perhaps becoming friends? The surprises continue as another ivory lupine approached, this one moving to stand next to Aindreas, her maw keeping itself shut. When he spoke in anger, she moved next to him, her flesh pressing against his in a more intimate show of support than the subtle motion that Magic had done. Apparently Aindreas’ love life was less complicated than his own, or so it would seem. The ivoress remains silent, quietly rubbing her blackened nose against the snowed titan’s mandible before flattening her auds and becoming motionless, a spectator of the drama that was unfolding.

It was obvious that the offspring held the fae to blame, even Adara, who kept her vocals under wraps, moved closer to Rohan to comfort him. The only words that escaped her kissers were quiet, almost calm as she greeted Aindreas, pleading him to still think of her as a sister. But then there it was – Adara’s words continued on to address Nika and express the regret of a broken family. We could have all been a family. You, me, Rohan, Aindreas… and Kalgalath. The girl glanced at Kalgalath, a look of confusion clear behind the arctics that he knew so well. Her gaze… all of their gazes, were like mirrors to him. It was quite disconcerting.

But then it seemed that all of the chastising from her offspring had finally broken Nika’s string of soft whines and pleading, bringing out her stronger side. The maternal instincts in her became reprimanding of her kin, her auds flattening at their words. As she addressed the younger lupines, Kalgalath felt offbalance, not knowing what his role in the broken family was now. Should he support Nika in correcting the offspring? Or watch – they were adults after all. She addressed her children one by one and the mottled grey titan remained silent, listening to her vocals weave through the wind. Even with the severity of their tone and meaning, he found that her voice still had power over him, even after all of the years.

And then came the explanation. I was selfish. I was too young to know what family meant. Kal’s icy gaze shifted from one set of arctics to the next as his brain worked through it all. He had lost the chance at participating in their upbringing, but perhaps… “Perhaps it is not too late for this to be fixed.” Second chances were deserved for all. “You three are, after all, my kin. Aside from Aindreas, I know naught of you. Aindreas, as for why I left… it was because I had heard a whisper of Nika’s whereabouts. I had thought to seek her out and then return to you, but when I returned you had left already. I should have told you. But all of that is in the past. What your mother did is done, and cannot be undone. But perhaps this family can be salvaged to a point. We could come to know and trust and love each other. What would be the harm in at least trying to become a family once more...” Ever optimistic, the brute waited for their responses.
