At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

The brute clenched the fleshy thing inside his jaws as he rose from the water. Fluid cascaded from his pelt back into the stream as he folded his leg and jumped out of the water. The fish flashed in the sunlight and flapped around in the brute’s jaws. Setting the prey down on the ground, he settled himself under the tree. Zev felt a longing he had not experienced before. Was it even a longing or just a very powerful emptiness? He sighed because he didn’t know the answer; however, somehow it was linked to Athene. The titan listened to the wind as it ruffled through the trees and their leaves and the way the cool draft from the falls caressed his body in the afternoon light. He didn’t even realize it, but it felt wonderful to not be under those dreadful cavern walls anymore. Despite not finding the staircase, he would not be going back to the caverns in quite a long while. The bushes ahead of him made a noise and the creamy fae limped through the shrubs. Zev lifted his head and towers as the fae sat next to him. “She’s gone.”

The brute moved himself so he was pushing against her body in comfort, and suddenly, the feeling that was inside him started to eat away. Athene acted as well and layed her head under his giant jawbone, and the brute knew she was comforted. The brute whispered into her ears to speak and the girl started to tense up. Did she not want to say anything about her sister? Had the brute forced something out of her that she wanted kept inside of her head? The titan instantly regretted telling her to talk. She began anyway. “Hellene is my twin sister, and I left her. I made her join a pack, for company we did lack. To do so was against her will, so love for the pack I tried to instill. But then adventures I went to seek and the caverns I did streak. First I met you and then I fell, into the cavern I meant, into the cell. Together we lost track of time, and I promise I’m almost at the end of this rhyme. When I returned to Spring Grounds, what I saw made me dumbfound. The Alphess is gone, my sister too. And now, I do not know what to do. For I know no one in that pack, meaning that I have no reason to go back. As for Hellene I do not know where she is. Here or there, or in between.”

The brute was often soothed when the fae spoke, her rhyme and words often settling into his mind and changing his thoughts. So she had went to a pack with her sister, had left for a couple of days, and now when Athene returned, she was gone? Zev stifled a growl. And the loss of an alpha as well; that could tear a wolf down. The brute pressed closer to her for comfort and the she let out a big sigh. He sighed and gazed off into the water, still running with fish. “Just remember, I am going to be here for you. A friend that will not let you live in pain. You are a strong wolf and can do anything that your heart desires. If your sister left out of revenge, then she doesn’t know you at all. With your words, I am sure you will be able to fix your relationship with her and maybe even become friends again, sort this whole problem out. You two just wanted different things, and maybe you will be able to compromise a solution. Just remember that I am behind you.” The titan finished his speech with a small breath and turning his cranium to the left. His fish would need to be eaten soon.

He reached over and grasped it between his ivories, setting in front of the female’s paws. “Eat so your strength can rebuild.” He closed his eyes as he felt Athene beside him, and the longing inside of him started to grow bigger. What was it that it wanted?
