The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

I've stood watch outside Channing's den, giving her and Henadin privacy in this trying time. I heard about the stillborn and my heart aches for both mother and father, knowing it can't be easy. I'm sure Henadin will try to protect Channing and maybe that's ok for now while she thinks about the others that survived but I still hope he'll tell her in time. She deserves to know.

The call of Kershov takes me by surprise though I should have been expecting it. I knew he wouldn't let this happen without some kind of motive. He has something in mind, I just don't know what. Rising to my paws, I head toward the call, my muscles tense. I have no plans to hostile action while inside the borders of Abendrot. I didn't come here to start a fight or a war. I still stand for peace. Kershov is a mysterious being and while I may not agree with his ways, he is still a king and he is respected and obeyed by his pack wolves. I won't do anything to jeopardize the lives of my pack mates. If anything were to happen to Channing or Henadin or the newborns, I would never forgive myself. I can only hope that whatever it is Kershov is about to ask, we can come to a peaceful solution.

As I get closer, I can make out Channing's awkward form moving slowly out of the den. My lips crinkle with concern for her wellbeing. She must be so sore after giving birth. Surely she shouldn't be up moving around. And yet I'm sure this has something, if not everything, to do with her in Kershov's eyes. He will want her present. Hopefully this won't take long then. She remembers her manners, keeping her form submissive and her eyes cast down respectfully, though I never expected anything less out of Channing. She's a sweet caring creature by nature. She thanks him for his hospitality, ready to listen. Henadin looks protective beside his mate but his tone is more polite than it was in Saw Tooth. For that, I'm glad. It must make him feel better that at least he can see his mate and know that she is okay.

He thanks the king and asks for the price. My ears flick back at such a thought. I would never ask for anything from another for giving them safety but that's Saw Tooth. This is Abendrot and they are much different. I note the healer who was present sneaking out of the den when Kershov arrives, disappearing into the pack lands as quietly as a mouse. I tilt my head at this but approach the group before me, moving in on the other side of Channing from Henadin so he can remain close to his mate. I lean over slightly, brushing my fur against hers, a sign of support if she needs it. I give her a soft reassuring smile that everything will be okay before I turn my gaze to the black one of the ice king.

"I, too, thank you for agreeing to this. Saw Tooth is in your debt."
