Misty Mountain is opposite of Rainbow Cliff. Mists hover year-round at this high altitude, mistaken by some to be thin clouds. Thin layers of snow cover the mountain, making some areas slippery and hazardous.

Some think it romantic, a place to bring their mates, while others come to play and romp. However, all must agree that there is some level of mystery and spookiness hovering about with the mists...

Failure! Freak! Disgusting! Unorthodox! Creature! The insults rang in her head as if they were being flung at her that instant. In a secluded, cramped den, Elphaba rested uncomfortably as nightmare after nightmare sought her mind to prey upon. She was exploring Misty Mountain, and she had reached where the ice grew the thinnest and she badly needed a rest, so she found a tiny den and slept. Of course, in her discomfort and exhaustion, she dreamed of her former home. She snarled, swiping at the air as she slept. Elphie always hated being treated like that, but she didn't really have a choice.
~~~
Elphaba! Her father raged, a large wolf with ugly, muddy-brown fur and angry yellow eyes. If you don't help your sister with the hunt, I will personally kill you and feed you to the buzzards! And you let her kill that deer, you hear me?! Elphaba nodded, gritting her teeth and setting off to find NessaRose. Playing with her friends, I bet. Why does she get friends? She's just a spoiled little brat with no brains! I guess that's what everyone likes. The new style. She thought, disgusted. Nessa! Nessa! Let's go to the celebrationarious hunt! She exclaimed with sarcastic happiness. Oh, the worst was the slang, adding random crap to every word. Her sister said good-bye to her friends and bounded over to Elphaba, pouting. I WANT TO PLAY WITH MY FRIENDS! Not go on some stupiditious hunt! Knowing how to handle this, she grabbed her little sister by the scruff and dragged her to the hunting grounds, plopping her down on the ground and nudging her. Look! The deer! Yumsicles! Elphie pointed it out to Nessa, forcing her closer. Just as she lifted her creamy-brown sister to clamp her jaws around its neck, the beast turned around, antlers glinting.A buck? She thought aloud, dropping Nessa. Run! She cried, nipping at her heels. The buck raced after the little wolfess, antlers low and ready to charge. Elphie stepped in front of it, running toward the stream. It followed her, and kicked at her with its front hooves. She fell in, the buck racing away, as blood pooled around her hindquarters. She groaned in pain, hauling herself out as shrieks of laughter burst from the banks. You scared all the fish away! Nice going, loser! A voice jeered, and more kept coming. Elphie staggered away, limping on one leg. Her father awaited her, a shaking NessaRose behind him. You left her behind?! With a buck?! Foolish girl! I should have eaten you while I had the chance! For the first time, something snapped, and she sank her teeth in his shoulder. Eat this! She shouted angrily, tearing apart from him and sprinting off. A herd of deer was in front of her, and it split up, a weak doe the only one left. She sank her teeth in it and hauled it away, breathing heavily as she dragged it into an abandoned den. Her father and four other wolves patrolled the area near her, sniffing the air. A pause, then they turned away, going back. She even smelled her father's blood-scent fading. When it was gone, she stepped out with the frail doe and sprinted again, away from the jeering faces and laughter. Away from it all.
~~~
With a jolt, she awoke and shouldered herself out of the den, panting and sitting down on a rock. "What a life." She muttered, closing her eyes for a moment. Soon, the girl craved for some company, and she stared downwards at the plummeting depths below the mountain, hoping anyone would come.
