aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Despite my relatively quick temper, I had high hopes for my reign as Alphess of the pack I called home. I really hoped that my pack mates felt the same way. Their opinions mattered more to me than almost anything. I was eager to tell them all of the new status change, see what they thought of it. I had a feeling they would approve and that's what I lusted for. I leaned into Kal's welcome touch, happy for the contact.

At his reply to my words, I only offered up a chuckle and a shake of my cranium. Oh how right he was. I had seen the way they had looked at us at the pack meeting, especially Chiron. I waited for him to follow my dart-like form, attempting to listen past the wind in my ears for him.

Finally, I heard him. Right behind me, then moving beside me. I dared not to cast my amber gaze his way but I was sure he was there. Perhaps I could have outrun him if I had been going full speed, but I hadn't. I had wanted him to catch up and be with me. I heard his deep voice call out, coming from just in front of me. A normal wolf would have slowed down, accepting their defeat. But me? I had one last trick up my sleeve, one he would never see coming.

I powered ahead, breaking through the trees and not slowing a tick. My luminaries met his, a devilish look in mine. I gave a playful snarl before performing my trick. Right before I collided with Kal, I glanced to my right, throwing my body into the air. Just as I had planned, my paws hit the tough bark of a nearby tree and pushed off. I sailed behind his hulking body, turning midair to face him. In one fluid motion, almost like dancing, I landed and lunged for his banner. Actually, I've got you! My triumphant words came with a huge grin.

Both of us gazed around, finding ourselves on the edge of the territory. His lyrics hit my towers and I give a short nod, glancing at the tree I had just catapulted off of. Naturally, my claws had ripped the bark from its former home. I knew why nearly no trees had been marked in such a way but I had to say, I liked to do it. It was not only a scent marking, but also a threat. I set to work, scratching up a few trees and twining my body around others. I also made sure to roll around in the plants that grew on our invisible doorstep.

When Kalgalath's words danced to my auds, I stopped my work, curious. The news about Moth earned a soft whimper from my vocals. Worry instantly spiked in me. His questioned strained me even more. I wanted nothing more than to be the one who traveled to Saw Tooth, to visit Moth. I had come to care about the sweet old Alphess. Still, if Kal was the one who decided to go, I had to let him. I offered a single nod in reply to him. A moment passed when a thought struck me. Emissaries. It was only one word but it made perfect sense to me. That's what each pack needed. Though everyone was free to come and go from the other's pack at will, it would be a good idea to have maybe two or three wolves from each pack to serve as messengers, it would be great.

And more than anything, I wanted to be one.
