The Way of the Warrior

She apparently could not register the fact that he was real, for even when he spoke to her she remained frozen. And then, slowly, her auds turned to face her, and then it was her face, and finally her eyes. And it was when her emeralds laid upon his own arctics that he felt as if his heart stopped. For there was no life in the orbs that once had been doorways into her emotions. They had been so vivacious and opinionated. And now? Nothing. Silence. Defeat. The snowed ess merely stares at him, and then a few times her lids shut and open, as if she is just awakening from a dream. Aindreas. I am sorry. Her lids close, and then she is reaching out to him and Aindreas finds his mind muddled once again. Is she in a state of dreams? Does she not realize that he is truly there? In front of her? With her? She ran from him and his words and his touch and his vow of devotion and love, and he followed her. He chased after her. Now that he knew how she truly felt, he would not let her leave him. Not unless she recanted her own words.
Slowly, his own muzzle reached out until it made contact with her own, and he gently rubbed his maw against hers, caressing her tenderly. Touch. It was so foreign and alien to the brute, he had been absent from social settings for so long, for the majority of his life. But with the return of his mother and his two siblings, and the discovery that Kalgalath was his father… it was a sign. A new beginning… a time to start over. A time of second chances. And so although it was hard for him to open up, and hard for him to embrace the sense that he had been deprived of so long, he was working at it.
Her silence and her weird trance had him frightened though. Had she broken? Had her mind and her soul been fractured? Aindreas’ tongue slipped out to run along her kissers lightly, hoping to snap her back to reality. But she seemed to be all but nonresponsive, and so his maw moved to her auds, his kissers opening just enough to allow his vocals to escape. “Genisys… Gen, my dear. Come back to me.” Just slightly louder than a whisper, they cut through the silence of the meadow. His pads brought him a step closer to her so that he could nuzzle against her neck. “Snap out of it, Genisys. I’m here. I came back for you. Why did you run from me? I was so worried… with the storm, the descent from the cliff… I didn’t know if you made it down safely. Genisys… do you really love me?”
A sharp pain swelled up in his chest as he awaited her response. Would her mind return? And of course, what would her answer to his question be? Love was something that Aindreas never really had experienced. Everyone had left him before a true bond could form. Kalgalath had stayed with him the longest… but for as long as he could remember, everyone he had come to care about had left. But not this time. To whatever gods there were, please not this time.
