News 08.08.2021
Change was long overdue in Spirane. Now that I have learned who is still an active presence within the pack, the ranks have been updated. As I once took time away from the pack, so too now shall Kalseru. Know that she is still second in command of the pack, as is reflected in her rank. Once you are familiar with the new ranking system, if you would like to change positions or move up in the ranks you need only ask. Let this be a time of new life in Spirane, and a promise of great things to come!

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

Taliesin approached, and the two rested side by side near the entrance to the den they had once shared. What a strange family Alcide had come to have, though he found the oddities to be the most splendid things about his life. And now his own brother Godric had arrived in Spirane and taken up the stead of Arcturus at Alcide’s right paw. The world worked in mysterious ways, mysterious ways indeed. When a grin teased its way onto Tal’s features as Alcide addressed him as ‘son,’ Alcide responded in kind, a smirk pulling across his own features. He was glad to see such a reaction, for it was the first time the alphen had tested such waters with the boy.

He offered a nod when Talisien spoke of wanting to go to Diveen to meet his aunt. Alcide did not know much of the mahogany lad’s ancestry. He had known Doe from the times of Solevion, but had never met Fenrir. “It is important to know where you come from,” was all he gave in reply. At nearly two years of age Tal certainly did not require Alcide’s permission to go beyond the borders of Spirane, much less to visit a pack of such close alliance as Diveen. Of course it was a long trek from Spirane’s safety to that of Diveen, and if Alcide did not feel that Taliesin was responsible enough to make the journey on his own he would certainly send him with an escort.

When the coffee hued adolescent first addressed him as Father, pride welled within Alcide. He could tell it was a new and trying experience for Taliesin, and he would not make a big deal of it – just as he had not made a big show of calling Tal ‘son,’ – but the patriarch’s eyes shined just a little bit brighter for it. Both ears pressed forward as he looked to where Tal rested at his side. His mangled right ear flopped slightly, but his attentiveness was evident. It was clear that the young man that sat beside him was in a business frame of mind. A warrior? It seemed that all the young men of Spirane strived to prove their worth, but Taliesin’s worth was self evident.

I am not busy today, Taliesin. I would gladly start showing you the basics this afternoon, and perhaps from then on Sleekwing and I can both take part in your training,” he said, rising to his feet and turning to invite the juvenile to join him in moving to a more suitable location. As they meandered together towards a nearby clearing, Alcide spoke again. “Remember, though, that just because you are starting your training at a young age does not mean that you are bound to be a soldier for the rest of your days. It is important to experiment in different fields of expertise at your age, so as to find what suits you best.” It was something that Alcide wished he could have taught Swallowbane and Sleekwing when they were young; perhaps it would have helped Swallowbane to adjust to no longer holding the position of heir to the throne. Leadership was not for everyone, and it was not a simple birthright.

When they reached the clearing, Alcide pivoted so that he stood face to face with his son. “The first and foremost important thing a warrior must learn, before ever taking a step to strike against another, is to defend himself.” Splaying his legs slightly, they became slightly rigid as he lowered his head and tucked his chin to protect his throat. “By spreading your legs a bit, you give yourself a more stable base to receive attacks. And when you lower your head and muzzle like this, it makes it much more difficult for your assailant to get a hold on your throat.” He held the defensive posture and watched Taliesin, waiting for him to mirror the stance. He would take it slow, hopefully not overloading Tal with too much information in one afternoon.
