PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

fire is catching

When she awakens to the gentle but unfamiliar touch of the other girl, darkness has shrouded the contours of the mountain. Disoriented by the unfamiliarity of her surroundings, the dark bay's eyes probe the shadows for the lean, fawn-colored mare who had accompanied her, a soft, plaintive sound calling out to her. Katniss knows that Fleete is not her mother; she remembers nothing of her dam, but Fleete had told her the circumstances of her conception and birth. It is a terrible burden for a child to bear, but the filly is young enough that she does not yet grasp the pain that has defined her very existence. Product of evil though she may be, Katniss herself is innocent; she just wants what any child does.

The comfort of a warm body cradling hers.

Before the tendrils of fear are able to fully envelop her mind, the arrival of a painted mare provides a welcome distraction from her dire circumstances. There is familiarity in the contrast of white against grey that Katniss cannot place, and she reaches out to tentatively touch the edge of one of the mare's white markings, her ears pitching forward at the sound of her soft inquiry. "Mama Fleete brought me here." She answers in the simple words of a child, devoid of the complexities that lay beneath this simple fact. The filly is too young to understand that she has been abandoned, and why.

It is then that she registers the presence of the other child, and approaches her with bold steps that are more characteristic of her strong, resilient personality. "Hi," she speaks confidently, her small head inclining ever-so-slightly. And then, extending her muzzle to brush noses with the unfamiliar child, she asks innocently, "Are you my new sister?" A brief frown twists her mouth, like clouds across the face of the sun. "Sister Fawne had to go away."

But just as quickly she is smiling again, excited at the prospect of a new playmate. Katniss has already endured the death of her world once; she will survive and move on, and with time her memories of the family she had briefly known will be forgotten.
