COME ONE, COME ALL, THE PARTY BEGINS

The guards, dressed in their finest livery stood on either side of a purple carpet that ran over the cobbled stones towards the castle’s main entrance. The sun glinted off their armour as they checked names off the scrolls clutched in their hands, and slowly, one by one, the guests were admitted into the fortress itself. The purple carpet continued through the entrance hall before turning left and marking the route to the main hall, the walls illuminated by the gentle light of the candles that flickered away on both sides. The great oaken doors had been flung open wide, and the brighter lights coming from the halls itself spilled out into the corridor beyond, inviting the guests into the warmth and grandeur of the great room.

Tables, laden with food, lined the walls, and the walls were rich with tapestries and heraldic banners. The colours were rich and bright, lending a liveliness to the otherwise solid grey stone. The eye was drawn upwards to the great beams of the high ceiling that had been decorated with streamers and a great chandelier. A final table ran along the dais at the very back of the hall, and at it were seated the king’s siblings. Morgana was clad in a dress of deep turquoise, the front strands of her black hair pulled back away from her face in braids. Atop the plaits sat a silver headdress, the strands of metal forming a celtic-like pattern and pressing against the paleness of the skin of her forehead. On her left hand side Mordred sat, dressed in his usual royal blue, his elbow rested on the table top and his long fingers pressed against his cheek. On his left stood the King’s throne, and the prince’s beside it, smaller, but still grand.

Faeries moved around the open space in the middle of the room as the musicians began to play. They carried with them drinks on guilt trays, and offered them to the guests with smiles. Nimueh entered the hall from the side-door to the right of the hall, the train of her green dress streaming out behind her as she made her way through the crowds and mounted the dais, taking her place next to Tristan’s empty seat, a smile playing happily in the corner of her mouth. Her eyes lingered on her children for a moment before she lifted her spoon and tapped it against the glass before her. The ringing sound, brought a hush to the room. Mordred stood up, raising an enigmatic hand in order to turn the hush into silence. “His Grace, King Arthur,” the teenager announced, “and His Highness, Prince Tristan.”

The back door open, and the king and his son entered the hall, side by side. Arthur dressed in a deep red satin, trimmed with gold, and Tristan in green. Crowns encircled both their heads and they moved towards their seats. Arthur’s smile was small, but the Prince was grinning. He caught the eye of the younger members of the court, winking playfully as he sunk down onto his throne. Arthur remained standing. “Welcome, everyone,” he began in a warm, carrying voice, “thank you all for coming. We are delighted to have you, and hope you have an enjoyable evening!” Pausing, his grey eyes scanned the room, his smile growing a little broader, “please help yourself to as much food and drink as you like. There is plenty. You are also welcome to venture into the gardens, I believe an ice rink has been created out there for your enjoyment.” Arthur reached for the wine jug before him, and filled his goblet before lifting it into the air in a toast, turning his head towards his son. “I am sure you will all join me in wishing the Prince Happy Birthday, and may he enjoy many more.” Taking their cue, the guards posted on the side doors that lead out into the gardens, pulled them open. Little golden lights hovered along the paths and lit up the trees and the flowerbeds in the darkness. Arthur sunk down into his seat and nodded his head at the crowd, his hand moving to invite them to dance, or eat, or move outside. The party had begun.

OOC
- If you want to react directly to this opening then feel free to start your threads in response to it. Alternatively, you may start your own threads in the usual way, just label them as party threads, so everyone knows they’re not just ordinary posts.
- I will be on the lookout for interesting/amusing/well-written etc. posts during the course of the events so that I can give out EOT points and llamas.

- You are welcome to start threads with any member of the royal family you please. If you want to talk to me (merlin) ooc first, then that’s fine too.

- If your character tries to leave the designated party areas, then just be aware that they will probably be herded back by the guards if they are caught ;)

Have fun!
