Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

It’s easy to be numb. Alice likes easy. Easy was something that never came to her, at least didn’t come to her often. That helped, the easy part of it. The part of it that she just… wanted to hold onto. She would always want nothing more than to cling to the things that were easy. Numbness was easy, so she clung to easy. It was easier to be… easy. The clockwork angel, all rust and nails, couldn’t help that. Her eyes set on the world around her with that same ease. Grace and easy came with ticking mechanisms. The automaton had a way of simply being that wasn’t so hard.

And so here she was, sitting and waiting. Waiting for something to come from behind and take her by surprise. Hell, she didn’t even like surprises. Alice liked it when things went completely and entirely as planned. It was easier that way. It was so much easier that way. Alice didn’t realize that easy was the way she was going, and maybe she would have changed that. Maybe she wouldn’t have changed that. If there was something she loved and hated all at once, it was change.

Change could have been good and could have been bad. She hated it when things were stagnant, stinking and briny. The clockwork angel needed to be out and about, needed to be in the world around her. She needed to feel the living and breathing of the real earth at her feet. All in the same… change was bad. Alice needed to have a steady cast of characters, needed someone that wouldn’t leave to stay around. The clockwork angel needed to be kept upright by things that stayed the same, steady and ready to catch her when things were going poorly. She needed the ones around her to catch her when she slipped.

And then there was someone, someone appearing in the world around her. Yes, a man that shows up to make assumptions. “I ache for nothing… lonely I’m not.” A measured tone with an even meter. She knew just how to speak, just how to sound the careful numb she strived for. Alice knew. Alice would always know just how to portray herself, just how to put herself out… just how to make things work the way she needed them to. Yes, the right words.
