aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

....................................................................................................................................................................................

Kalgalath often wondered why the fae didn't interact with the other members of the pack. She had to be lonely, surely, living all of a sudden in a strange new pack and knowing only the Alpha, her entire past a mystery to the others. Would she not try to make friends? Would she not make a real life here? His heart went out to her, and he felt pained - she always seemed so unhappy. The grey brute had hoped that by seeing how cohesive and loving his pack members were that she would be able to start again, that she would form relationships with the other wolves and start to pick up the shards of herself that had fallen to pieces. Instead, she acted like she was a prisoner. She kept to herself, silent, always silent. He longed to talk to her, to get the fae to open up to her as she did that one day in the woods... but it seemed that his demand... when he forced her to uphold her vow... that it had put distance between them. Kalgalath thought he had been doing it for her own good and well being, but with her being so unhappy, perhaps it was time for things to change a bit.

Still, perhaps the silence was good. She would have to be patient and wait for him to give her a job. It was true that he had given her the order not to leave the boundaries, but that would soon change. He was waiting until he could trust her enough not to go running back to the Prince. Should she wise to return to the Prince once she had fulfilled her sworn oath to Kalgalath, that was her choice. But he would make sure that she was stronger before that happened. She would have self-confidence, wisdom beyond her years... he would do for her everything he could to teach her of her own strength. Only when she saw in herself what he saw in her would he release her from the oath, and when that would be... it all depended on her.

His auds flickered backward. He had been traveling through his terra, making the fae track him down after he called for her. The sound that his auditories were responding to were the footfalls of the fae. She lengthened her stride until she was walking in parallel with him, each of her steps just as soft as his own. The King smiled slightly and looked at the fae, but the smile disappeared when his arctics laid upon her - her unhappiness was clearly written upon her face. Once more he wondered why the fae had chosen him to pour her heart out to. Was it worth all of this stress to help Kohaku? His cranium shook... of course it was. His life was led with the belief that you should help others if at all possible. Which was what brought him here. Kalgalath stopped his motion, turning to face her, opening his maw just slightly.

"Kohaku... why did you open yourself to me? I agreed to take you into my pack - my family - to help you. You vowed your loyalty to me but since you have arrived you have been pushing all of my boundaries and rules, and remain unhappy at all points. I hate to see you like this... You are a loner, a ghost creeping across my lands. This is your home now, Kohaku..." He started moving again, the last of his sentence remaining unsaid. 'I want you to be happy.' But he understood that it was unlikely to ever be. Her heart was held by the prince, and the distance between the two lovers had done nothing to minimize his control.

For hours it seemed, they walked in silence, when in fact it may have been minutes, but so uncomfortable was the silence that it seemed to drag on and on. Finally he opened his maw again, addressing his goal. "You vowed to me your loyalty, but I understand that loyalty is impossible without respect. So I will do what I can to gain your respect by teaching you what I can to strengthen you. I have a few ideas of where to begin, but I will leave it up to you. Kohaku, your skill and potential is unlimited... I only wish that you could see how strong you are." He offered her a brief smile before continuing on. "Your education will be well rounded, and you will touch upon all skills. I do not know where you would like to start, for I do not know what is it that you already know. Your past is your own, so whether you choose to enlighten me is your choice. But I would like you to learn about hunting, herbology for healing, fighting techniques, defensive technique, tracking... everything. I will teach you all that I can, or find others to teach you if my own knowledge is not adequate for your liking. Eventually I will send you to other packs, to learn from them what you can." All in due time. Kalgalath stopped once more, his icy gaze landing upon her. Arctics that were of the most electric blue drilled into her, silently asking her what her preference was.
