And we're starting at the end
My comic surprise did not go unnoticed. Vercingetorix had apparently picked up my scent and followed me for an unknown length of time, and I only spotted him when I looked about for other bodies. His coat showed no signs of winter, even at this time in spring, though it wasn’t so early; no doubt his fur hung scattered about the territory in the brambles and branches.
I smiled rather shyly at his welcome. "I was expecting adventures, yes," I said, "though my wanderings about were not quite so exciting as to be worthy of such a title. Unfortunately." I really hadn’t managed much trouble while I was out and about; explored, mostly, which was fine enough, I suppose.
I reached back to touch my swollen barrel with my nose. "I believe this is yours," I said, looking back to Vercingetorix. There was fear in my throat when I thought about the life that was ready to burst from my sides, though I did my best to hide it. Surely I would be fine.
"Is it alright that I’m here?" I asked.
