just one smile can change all of mine

Someone had found them. That wasn't good. They would probably hide all the dragons! Hiding the dragons was the worst thing that could happen in this party because the dragons were going to be the best part especially when they all appeared and started flying around the castle. This person looked like a soldier though and she frowned a little at the idea of a soldier trying to stop the dragons from celebrating too. Soldiers didn't win when they fought dragons. That was something her Da had always said when there were stories about dragons. This was supposed to be a party, not a place where the soldiers got hurt! Then he was looking at her dress and Wefios' dress and her familiar muttered something just under thought that she tried very hard to not pay attention to. The fairy shushed him mentally before turning to the soldier with a shy smile. He had looked at her dress! It was her first dress and a soldier was looking at it and tonight she didn't care what her Da said about letting soldiers look at you because that was what was supposed to happen at a party! Wefios tried to say something again but she cut him off to talk to the soldier instead.

I'm looking for dragons! The king has dragons I know, lots of dragons! I wanted to find them before they all came out. And Wefios likes houses. Sometimes. If it's not too small.” The look on the mule's face suggested that he didn't like houses, or castles, at any time, but he made no comment. Anything he could say would just make things worse – they'd already been found by a guard who clearly wanted them out. The only way it could get worse would be if Reece refused to leave and he intended to make sure that she left smiling and happy about it.

Then it got much, much worse.

The door to the next section opened and another fairy rushed through. In itself that would normally present no problem but just behind the girl was a head he recognized all to well. A dragon head, to be exact, and the speed which he turned toward his familiar had him skidding, slipping, and slamming into walls to try to stop his fairy from taking off would have impressed his fairy at any other time. Despite that he was still too slow to completely prevent his fairy and he brayed a warning as she moved through him rather than ducking beneath his neck. That wasn't a pleasant feeling and neither was the fact that she was running toward the dragon while chattering at the top of her lungs about dragons and friends and various nonsense about knowing that the king was hiding dragons in the castle. In a second she was solid again and close enough to the dragon that her familiar began to wonder about how to extract a fairy from a dragon's mouth and how to convince the three that she only looked like a danger to everyone around her. Reece didn't bother with any such things and immediately began to stick her hands toward the dragon to see what it's feathers felt like and to get as close as she could without quite touching the dragon. It was kind of scary now that it was up close and breathing! And it was big, very big. How had they managed to get it into the castle in the first place? It was really big, it had to be one of the main dragons for the king. The bestest biggest one!

My name is Ree, I came here to find you! Do you always stay in the castle? You're pretty. And feathery! I didn't know dragons could be feathery!,” the girl paused. Was feathery a bad thing for dragons? She didn't want to insult the dragon! “Feathery is better than anything else! Soft and pretty and nice, not like cold scales. That's Wefios back there, he's loud sometimes so just ignore him. Are there more dragons here? The king has a lot of dragons I've heard. And he's really really tall and strong and the best king because of how strong he is. Have you ever seen the king or the prince?” She'd seen him once. A long time ago when there was snow everywhere and he hadn't seemed that big but he probably had to disguise himself to not scare everyone away when he went outside the castle. And Wefios was still trying to say things about just leaving the castle and going back but she didn't listen until he sent her a picture of herself being eaten. Shocked, the fairy turned to physically look at him for the first time in a while and her wide eyes were enough of a testament to what type of conversation they were having. After a minute of she turned from him again, hmphing to herself.

Wefios could be such a grump when he didn't want to be somewhere..
