CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.
Messages posted in the last 24 hrs. are in White.

Many congrats to all who took part in out magnificent protest March today.

No time to pat ourselved on the back though, here is what we must do next, do it NOW if you can, the cracks are showing, pile on the pressure:-

All members of the Association, particularly those Fusiliers resident in the 111 constituencies across our 4 Regimental homelands, are requested to write to their constituency MPs on or about the 15th October. The following may be of some assistance. Please do put it into your own words, but conclude with specific questions that your MP can submit to the Secretary of State for Defence :

Dear Mr/Ms...............,

Following today’s gathering of veteran Fusiliers in Whitehall, I write regarding the Ministry of Defence Army 2020 proposal to disband the 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, one of the best recruited and operationally experienced battalions of the Regular Army.

The decision to pander to Scottish Referendum considerations by preserving several poorly recruited Scottish regiments at the expense of English constituents being denied their own County/family Infantry Regiment are now coming home to roost. Defence capability is diminishing as recruiting has fallen and undermanned battalions are no longer fit for operations. Measures for 30,000 reservists to replace the reduction in regular forces have failed to materialise whilst their full per capita costs have become less attractive. Despite this, plans for the disbandment of Regular Battalions continue.

I believe that the future Infantry regimental structure should be based upon military criteria, particularly those of operational flexibility and recruiting sustainability. Long term sustainability is key to the future Army structure. The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers recruits from a population pool of 15 millions in the four historic Fusilier home areas. To reduce it to a single battalion, whilst preserving 4 Scottish battalions who compete for recruits from a Scottish population of 5.2 millions, is of questionable judgement.

I request that, as my constituency Member of Parliament, you seek on my behalf clear answers from the Secretary of State for Defence to the following questions:

What sustainability criteria were used to select Regular Infantry Battalions for disbandment?

Were the same criteria applied to the continued existence of the non-operational Foot Guards “independent Companies” (Nijmegan Coy Gren Gds, No 7 Coy Coldm Gds & F Coy Scots Gds)?

Why are the undermanned Scots Guards now being authorised to recruit in the Fusilier homelands of England ?

How many of the proposed 30,000 reservist posts have to remain unfilled for the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers to be retained in the operational order of battle?

Yours sincerely,

Joe.
