News - SUMMER

Summer has arrived. The world has been well at peace, and others seem to be trying to take advantage. They believe we are lazy and complacent. We are no such thing. Remain vigilante, friends and family.

Give your congratulations to Maiko. She has been promoted to Blizzard; she earned it.

We also have an activity check going. Please reply so I can make adjustments accordingly. Check will go for an entire month so we can hopefully capture everyone.

As always, if you have need of me, do not hesitate to find me.

She laughs but it is unlike any sound I have heard before; it is quiet, gentle, and it brings me once more to attention, my ears tall. It is not like the laughs I am used to - it is pleasant, almost, though strange as it is. Laughing is a strange thing, I have found. It is a learnt habit, and indeed it does not come naturally. Ah, I cannot help but wonder where she learnt it from, though I speak not on the matter; I merely half smile once more, huffing to myself. Her modesty does not go unnoticed though I cannot say that I am too phased by it. I am used to competing with my siblings, or with my sister at least, but I have fast learnt to merely accept the gratitude and credit others give. The more underestimated I am, the greater the shadow I shall cast when I rise above them. For now, we shall both remain un-shadowed by the other and for now, that is okay.

When she leans forward, her composure broken, I too lean forward until we are but some inch or two apart. Blankly, I hold her gave, a brow slowly rising along with one side of my lip. Of course she does not understand - she is not of my blood or of my family. Such a thing hardly bothers me but I must admit, it is a powerful thing to speak and to cloak ones words. Perhaps one day she will learn things, when she has proven to me that she is much more interesting and worthy of my time than the others. Then, we shall both be able to speak in the shadows. What can I say? Lately, I have been thinking like Solaris: I need others like myself.

We move down the descent but I keep an eager eye on her as she begins to speak - she speaks of hunting, and I am captivated. I, too, have hunted and yet, perhaps I hunt for a different reason. Often it is my desire to learn something about another animal that provokes my desire to hunt, with my hunger coming secondary. At times, I have merely hunted the skinks and young birds and left their popped bodies undevoured. They are all the same inside - over and over - and yet, each exterior is different. I turn to her, though, with those thoughts alive, my head tilted yet again.

"Do you look within?"

My voice is earnest, almost pleasant as I continue to stare into her, waiting ever so hungrily for my answer. The anticipation is a good distraction for we are fast to make our way towards the center of the pack; I know the paths well, for I have experimented many times with quickest routes and locations as to where the pack congregates most often. To me, such information is pertinent and now such a desire to learn is paying off - I can smell the flesh ahead of us, and I find myself turning my attention towards it. My tongue lashes out, rolling across my muzzle hungrily as I pick up the pace, my tail waving behind me. Will they try to stop us? I laugh, cold and scheming as Khaleesi's has been.

"They cannot."

I smile darkly, thinking on what would surely happen if I cried out loud enough. Mother, I know, prefers us to be alone, to be independent but even I know... she will crush any that dare intrude on her possessions. In time, it shall be I that does the crushing but for now, my companion and I are stuck in our small, lanky bodies.

We move along, and it seems we are alone. I keep my guard up, raising my head high and looking about for any sign of another; there are none, for it would seem the others are as foolish as I would have myself believe. They trust that their posturing in the past will have instilled respect within us - they expect us not to steal solely because they have told us so. It seems like a folly expectation, really. Boleyn and I shall have our feast now and then, perhaps, we shall move onto more adventurous things. I have always wanted to explore the free lands...

When we arrive at the carcass, my tongue once more lashes out hungrily. The kill is somewhat fresh and with plenty of flesh to spare; the ribs are somewhat cracked, its innards splayed out. It is most curious to see the insides of a creature as such - each part is so large, and I cannot help but nose curiously at the larger organs as I move over to it. There is one organ I wish for, however - I use my paws to shove in beneath the rib cage, using my teeth to pull out whatever flesh I can. What I seek is simple; it is what makes that wet, slopping pounding in a creature's chest. It is easy to find, too, and though it takes me some minutes, I finally pull back with it in tow. It is half mangled but it is there - it had been less compliant, but all things bend and break eventually. With a swish of my tail, I come to Boleyn's side before dropping the heart at our paws.

"We share what is best."

It is not a question or a suggestion but a statement, and no sooner do I begin to tear into my half, enjoying the thick, rubbery texture of the flesh. It is messy work, my muzzle stained crimson with blood as I grin wickedly to myself.

"Adults. They fight over this. We have taken it from them so easily."

I laugh once more, rocking back to be seated as I begin to lick the blood from my muzzle. I watch her expectantly though, waiting to see what her reaction will be to the theft of one of the most desirable parts of a creature. They did not stop us. We cannot be blamed for their negligence.
