Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

Why she had finally decided to face her fears and enter the freelands again, she did not know. Part of her needed to get away from Grendal. She loved her son, she truly did. She just couldn’t help but look at him and see her attacker. The claustrophobic feeling had come back as she sat with him in the den this morning. So she had made her excuses to him and ventured away. Normally, on the few days that she needed space, she usually stayed around Glorall, tending to find peace by the ocean. Today, however, the ocean had no peace for her and she found herself tired of the same surroundings. She had made her way to the border of the lands and stood for a few minutes, simply looking out on the lands beyond. She hadn’t left since her attack.

Her eyes surveyed the land in front of her. This close to Glorall, there were no others in sight. Determination crept into her heart. She would be of no use to anyone – not her pack and not her son – if she refused to leave the safety of the pack lands. She glanced ahead of her in the direction of the Crags. A shudder involuntarily ran through her body as her tail retreated between her legs. No, there was no way she could make herself go in that direction. Shaking herself as if she could shake off her fear, she looked in the other direction, toward the lake. Perhaps a swim would do her good. Taking a deep breath, she steps forward, trotting briskly to keep her mind off of the fact that she was leaving safety behind.

As soon as she heard voices and splashing ahead, she froze. There were many wolves ahead, that much she could both hear and smell. The grass hid her from sight, so she crept forward cautiously. Once in sight, she relaxed slightly. She had seen these occasional gatherings before, where wolves of all kinds came together. Sure enough, she could smell the individual scents of the different packs upon these wolves. Guard lowered slightly, she crept forward to join the others at the water’s edge.
