Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Here at the end of the world

N o e l

planets fall and we are rising

As the sun set, they were to meet in the clearing. Alcide was not going to wait long, he had warned them on that much. Noel wasn't about to miss the greeting party to Taviora. He needed this. As much as Alcide and Spirane needed this, the boy would wager that he might need it more.

It wasn't that he needed to get out of Spirane. It wasn't like that. He was actually growing quite fond of the mountains, their open clean air and the varying ecos of the different altitudes. It was an easy and pleasant place to live; he had no reason to escape it. This wasn't escape, this was... healing.

Shut inside for so long, Noel had begun to wither away in seclusion since his arrival in Spirane. The worst part about it: he could feel it happening. He was aware of how far he was falling each and every day. It had begun to consume him, this slow descent into the deepest pits of depression. Knowing it was happening, believing he was unable to do anything about it. Things needed to change; he needed to break away from his wallowing and the futile feeling that was swallowing him whole.

Alcide's pack meeting had given him that out. It gave him a reason to step forward, to get involved and break that cycle of misery that had been spinning since he could remember. He had taken that opportunity, signed up for the greeting party and, surprising even himself, he had also taken up the title of Aquila. That was the beginning of his recovery, taking that first step away from the drowning pool. And, since then, he had made an effort to interact with the few pack members he had come across. Far as he was from whole, he finally felt like he was going in the right direction.

So, today had come, the first milestone in his path, and he wasn't about to fall short to tardiness. Noel had entered the clearing well before noon. For someone so young, he waited with extreme patience, checking the sun's path along the clear blue summer sky now and then. He was laying in the soft pine soil when Alcide finally approached, lifting his charcoal muzzled from his white paws to acknowledge the alpha's approach but remaining otherwise stoic. He waited as silently as his alpha for the others to show, lifting himself from the ground without hesitation when Alcide finally picked up a jog northward.

The journey was quiet; it seemed everyone had their minds on the task before them. Noel couldn't speak for the others, but he was immensely interested in seing Taviora. Since the northern forest had been established as a pack territory, there had been quite a stir around Spirane. Some were tense, others merely curious. Noel was both.

The yearling froze when Alcide stopped, ears perking in alert and mismatched amber and split amber-blue eyes darting quickly around them before landing on his alpha for signals. Noel watched as the gray male scented the earth, walking up slowly beside the alpha to stand cautiously beside him. He tested the air himself, nose wrinkling as the strong scent of a foreign male burned strong in his nose. The unfamiliar scent prickled nerves that were not used to such a smell, causing the boy to give a violent little sneeze. He gave his head a clearing shake, catching Alcide's actions out of the corner of his eye. Following suit, Noel lifted his snout skyward and tested the air again, finding a lighter odor the higher he stretched into the air as well as the scent of other wolves. Interesting...

Ears flicked to Alcide as he spoke, eyes following shortly as he gave his alpha full attention. It made sense; also explained why some of the wolves in Spirane had been tense since hearing the news that the forest was now settled. Noel nodded silently to let Alcide know he understood, that he would do his best to support Spirane.

Alcide returned his nose to the sky and let loose a powerful sound and, for a moment, Noel merely observed with wide, tentative eyes. The boy opened his mouth, hesitating for a moment before adding his own high, silver tone to Alcide's strong voice. Maybe he shouldn't have; maybe he was expected to wait silently beside his alpha, but if that were the case, he didn't know better. Unsure, uneducated logic had said they were here as a unit, they should act as a unit, and so he had.

Cautious eyes watched Alcide as their voices trailed off, the echo dying quickly in the thick forest. His body spoke in volumes: tail lowered, neck bent, ears set back in a delicate expression. Apology, just in case he was wrong.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
