Thirsty ice blues watch the docile female move toward shelter, saliva already pooling in my jaws as I think about how she must taste. I have been tracking my prey for days now, whispering the sweetness of her blood in my sleep. I don't get much of that anymore, not since Rose died.
You could say I'm on a vendetta. My heart is cold and still in my chest, or so it seems, my mind befuddled with only one thing still sharp and clear: thirst. I did not hunt much when I was with her for obvious reasons. She didn't know my main course and I was never planning on telling her. Now I won't even get that chance to change my mind. Something or someone took her from me and now the world is going to pay.
The girl seems morose and withdrawn, purposely avoiding the gatherings of other wolves which is just fine by me. It'll make it that much easier to take her out with no one to rescue her. I clamber eagerly through the forest, drinking in her delicious perfume like an elixir of life. She will be feeding me soon enough. My paws are like air through the forest, stepping on silent ground only, second nature to me now after so many years of this game. Godric taught me well.
When I get near and she is in range, I dash forward, no warning on my breath as I dive toward her stomach, running at her from the side so I easily swing my body away from her own retaliating jaws when the pain registers. My neck stretched, head angling upwards once I'm under her, jaws snapping upward at her tender stomach while my broad shoulders tense and aim to lift her up and topple her over for easier pickings. If she goes down, I'll pounce, claws raking into the tender flesh of her shoulder and ribs while my parted jaws go for something much juicier, her neck. They will sink deep into any flesh they touch, ravaging the skin with fierce head shakes as I dig for the real prize, her blood.
Once I've gotten a taste, I coil back and get out of reach, readying myself for a second assault while I eye my prize with a sharp hunger known only to my kind.
