A chill wind creeps up the steep mount slopes of Spirane, sweeping through the tall conifers and rattling the brittle skeletons of leaves that still stubbornly clung to the branches of the otherwise bare birch branches. Without the warmth of the late autumn sun, the nights were quick to cool in the higher elevations of Moladian, and small, crystalline puffs of vapor appeared in the frosty air, tiny breaths that came and went, perhaps the only sign that something living was passing through the forest and slowly making it's way into Spirane's interior.

I am but a sterling specter, dressed in silver gossamer and black lace. Lovely heart shaped face still bears that wistful, dreamlike quality of the youthful lady I had once been; but had become more refined and elegant as the years had transgressed. I moved upon quick, agile paws, so ginger and fleet it seemed I flowed across the landscape rather then tread upon it. But my usual Shaman's grace was stinted, my gait haggard by the pronounced limp in my left flank where a hearty chunk of the flesh had been torn away, ripping into the muscles just beneath the fur.

Almond shaped eyes wince with each tender step, and the turrets of my ears (one of which had been shredded) make a continuous circuit to and fro, listening for any sign of pursuit. Since crossing back into the familiar realm of Moladion, it seems that my attackers had finally given up or fallen back, but I would take no chances in endangering any of the wolves of my Pack, and had taken extra care in plotting a course for home. On several occasions I had doubled back and taken the more treacherous of paths winding through the crater towards Spirane's borders, and for good measure I had taken to fording creeks and brooks to loose the scent of my blood which still trickled from the gash on my hindquarters. Luckily it was the most brutish that I have suffered, everything else was hardly more then a bruise or a few deep cuts that raked down my chest.

But finally, the scents that tantalized my olfactors were those of something familiar and sacred. Juniper and tundra scrub, ancient rock and eagle wings. Familiar faces danced in the peripheries of my mind, Camelot and Bark, Swallowbane and Sleekwing, Orca and Ceal.

And of course, One face above the rest.

The thought of being so close was elating, and drove my steps into a higher gear, muzzle dipping low to the earth to single out that Cologne and pursue it to it's magnificent source.

I breached the tree line, the summit of the mountain kingdom gilded in ethereal moonlight and deep cobalt sky.

"Thank the great Spirit, I am Home!" I exclaimed in a hushed few words.

A dark shadow passes over the moon, a rustle of perlino feathers whispers on the breeze and a hoarse chortle of birdsong echoes down into the valleys below. Orba had already flown ahead to scope out the area, looking to see if she could spy the reigning Alpha of the mountain peaks. Her cry tells me I'm closing in, and his spicy northern scent fills my nares, filling too, my eyes with unshed tears. Alcide!
