Her howl confirmed all. Any doubts or hesitations that had caught within the spider webs of his mind were immediately wiped away. Soon, there was only one thing left in his mind; Mae. His heart sung with joy and he could barely contain his excitement for her arrival. He couldn’t understand why he had ever doubted his dear friend – she was such a marvellous wolf and he could not think of any moment where she had wounded him. That was a part of the reason for loving her, even if it pained the motley boy to admit it. His hearts desires would never be public, and they would never fall into the understanding of Mae for he feared the rejection and the pain that would rule over all. Terrel knew that time would fix everything.
Like a phantom riding the gentle breeze, his dearest friends entered his vision. Sheltered by the falling darkness, his hazel eyes fixed sharply upon the silver dame with a thumping heart. Terrel watched as she paused for a brief moment, as if astounded by the looming rocks that towered above them. In that moment, as rays of moonlight fell against her pelt, Terrel was reminded of how flattering her appearance was and he could not help but smile. At the sound of her words, his tail wagged and he could barely keep himself from leaping up and rushing to her side. Her voice sent him into a trance, where his sole thought was Mae. But their small distance apart was soon covered as she graced the land in a bound. The boy stumbled backwards as she pressed her face into the fur into his neck, put off balance by her surprising movement. With a smile playing upon his pallid kissers, the lad pressed his chest closer to her body, rejoicing in their embrace.
It felt incredible. To be so close to her without even the slight hint of awkwardness or restraint… it felt incredible. And he would have found it hard to describe it as anything different. The scents of a pack and loner melded once more and his body lightened and felt freer. Worries or tension slowly seeped away and though he suspected that they would soon return, he could not help but take the opportunity to celebrate their reunion. Terrel adored her, and he had often proclaimed to himself that he would have done anything for her happiness.
‘Terrel, I have missed you,’ his kissers spread to reveal pallid teeth, and released a sound of something that represented agreement. His heart had ached for her amiable countenance; his body yearned for the comfort she brought and for the sensations that confused him. On her inquire of his wellbeing, he simply smiled. “I have been well… idle but well, and you? Has anything interesting happened in your life?” He was softly spoken and allowed his eyes to rest lightly upon her entrancing face, fondness in his expression. But thoughtfulness still loitered within his brown gazers, a thoughtfulness that was difficult to understand.
With a step backwards, he held in a sigh of regret. He wished for their closeness again, for the warmth of her body and the beating of her heart but he understood that he could not remain idle the whole of their meeting. His chocolate gaze fell to the limp bodies of the rabbits. “I caught some rabbit for, uh, us.” He explained. “Of course I understand if you aren’t hungry or you don’t want to eat anything… I just thought it would be a nice thought.” Placing his jaw to one, he clutched it between teeth and dropped it gently at her paws before following onto the other. Silently he pleaded that she would oblige to his invitation to eat.
“I went to Saw Tooth the other day,” he began. But he said no more, waiting for if she welcomed the topic he had brought up.
