aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

That voice. I sit bolt upright, ears flickering like radars. The warmth of my den surrounds me. It didn't take long to re-acquaint myself with it. It's simple and dark, just the way I like it. The floor is cold and unforgiving but it soothes my savaged body. My fur is still dull and lifeless, my golden eyes once so bright now more like an ocher hue. I have barely started putting weight on, knowing that since I'm back, I'll need to defend the pack and more importantly, the wolves that remain that I care about.

For a moment I forget what I was doing, starting to lower my head back to the merciless soil, ready to close my eyes and return to that oblivion I've become so accustomed to. But then the wind blows and a haunting nectar greets my nose. Suddenly I'm up on my feet, staring at the entrance of my den like a ghost is about to walk right before my eyes. No, it can't be her. I've already accepted her being gone, at least from my life. I lost her a long time ago. She rejected me and went on to live a happy life with someone who deserves her. There's no way she would return here, no reason, especially not me.

And yet I can't help but investigate. I slowly move to the entrance, poking my nose out. At first I think it was merely a trick of the wind, something to give me a flicker of false hope. But then another whiff of the mesmerizing scent tickles my nose. My tail gives a weak wave instinctively and before I can have any other second thoughts, I take off. It doesn't take me long to reach the borders, the perfume growing stronger with every leaping stride. When that haunting gray silhouette comes into view, I stop mid stride, stumbling over my own feet. I barely save myself from face planting but when I do finally look up into her perfect angelic face, I see only the pain I saw that night in the rain. There are glimmers of that day at lake in a storm, when she looked so peaceful but mostly its just the night she rejected my touch, knowing it to be the touch of a monster.

I am lost for words, my lips barely parting before closing again, a fish out of water effect coming over me as I struggle for breath. Miya is the last wolf I thought I would see, and so fresh after losing Akina. I never even had her to lose her, I have to remind myself once again. I try to say her name, to say anything but all that comes out is a bitter whimper, so soft she might not even hear it. My golden eyes are wide and helpless, vulnerable and pleading, though I don't know for what or from who.
