aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The cold breath of the forest reached out through the entrance of the trees, snaking up and out into the open air. Snow was gently falling, the burning light of the sun practically out compared to most summer afternoons. But, it wasn’t summer anymore. The cold of the winter blew against the trees, shattering the small recesses of warmth hidden beneath the roots of the trees. The ground did little to help, frozen to the touch like most of the world. A squirrel dug through the snow at the foot of a tree, finding some nuts, stuffing them in its mouth, then leaping up the tree back to the safety and warmth of a little hole in the dark brown trunk he bounded up. Evening was starting to set in, now starting to get colder as the sun slowly dimmed, faster than it had the day before. The clouded sky almost gave off the effect of a fog, the closeness of the sky perhaps a bit too close for comfort. A black pelt stood within the forest, a lean figure standing in the snow to try and save a moment of warmth before it got chased away. Her breath slithered out of her maw, fingering through the air and clawing towards the clouds. She huffed out a breath, watching the small cloud of white drift upwards into the sky.

Usually, the vixen would want to stay hidden. Among the shadows, within the trees, deep into the secrets that most didn’t know. But, today she felt different. Being in the darkness all of the time certainly had its disadvantages. Her poor eyes never saw the sun often, more now than ever. In fact, the ess had started to forget about her duty to the night, encouraging herself to look far beyond the burning light of the sun. That step she had taken happened months ago. The sun was merely her friend, the soft touch of its warmth always a pleasant feeling inside her body. The usual burn from the sun escaped her, the hot fingers of the sun filing through her pelt and making her warm. The darkness always seemed cold, but the ess knew that each of them felt wonderful in different times of the year, as well as the day. Now, the ess, Magic, carefully placed her paws forward, walking ahead through her pack lands and scenting the breeze along the way. Magic had not seen her alpha, Kalgalath, in quite a long time; the cold gave different thoughts and feelings to others, so the only thing she could do was except that. They just had not crossed paths; she scented him on the breeze, everywhere she went. It was just he had already came and passed the places she encountered on a daily basis, but that really didn’t matter in the slightest. What made the vixen aware now was the new scent of a wolf drifting lazily over the breeze.

Magic held a higher place within the pack. As Gamma, she held the responsibility after Kal and Zig, but, even now, she still wasn’t used to this. There was no wolf in the pack that caused trouble; she did no altering whatsoever. Perhaps now that should change? The vixen altered her path, glad to make her way towards the border of the lands to greet the fellow probably wanting to join. The scent of another pack had not reached her nares, but that did not mean she wasn’t ready for an ambush. A pack wolf never failed to exercise their loyalness towards their home. What Magic didn’t know was if she was permitted to accept wolves into the territory or not. Quite frankly, she didn’t want to. Of course she didn’t mind or felt intimidated. It simply was not her thing. However, maybe it should be. Meeting new wolves was part of the vixen’s forte, but giving responsibility to a new wolf before the King or Queen met them? Unthinkable. Mind as well meet the wolf before they got cold feet.

The scent of the wolf came faster than it should have, suggesting that the loner had already crossed the border. Magic reacted instantly, sliding into the deeper part of the darkness and into the shadows of the evening that were just beginning to fold. The element of surprise was not lost from her yet. Through the forest, she did indeed see the wolf, across the border and eyeing the trees in a meandering way. She snuck up behind the brute before he could be able to take a breath of the wind, sliding lightly in front of him before he could take a step farther. Lithe as she was, she used this trick of hers very often. “Wolf. In case you haven’t noticed, you have stepped over our border. Now, I am assuming you pose a threat since you did not stop and wait to be let in. Give me your business in Aurora Borealis now. And please be aware that others are watching.” She sat down in the snow, a crunch sound folding her words into silence. Her amber gaze pierced through the air down to the new wolf, waiting for his answer as she held herself high.
