Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Return to Lunar Children
&& if only i had wings Birthing
IP: 12.231.36.2

It is time. I know it as sure as the wind blows. I have everything prepared, having been setting up my den for months now, ever since the first signs of pregnancy. It feels strange, being heavy with child so long after losing Acheron. There was a time when I thought I would never have children again. There was a time when I thought I would never love again. But there I go being pessimistic again. I did fall in love again and this time it feels more complete than ever. I can never describe in words what Coza makes me feel. Complete, whole, is the best way to put it. Every part of me rejoices when he's around and when he's not, I miss him more with every passing minute.

It was a surprise to find out I was in fact heavy with child this winter. I can't say Coza saw it coming either but the look on his face was worth every doubt in my mind that I can pull it off. He couldn't have been happier and he doted on me all winter, making sure I'm well fed and dry and whether I'm hot or cold. Anything to make me feel more comfortable, he was on it before I could even think it. He was oh so gentle with me too, rubbing against my stomach like its made of glass and listening with his ear pressed against my abdomen as I lie on my side at night, talking to his unborn children. It was enough to bring me to tears many a time. He is going to be a wonderful father, I know it already.

And so another contraction racks my body and I moan lightly, knowing its just beginning. The real pain hasn't started yet. I have lavender, poppy seed, and many other herbs packed up in the den, ready for management of everything that is to come. I've bundled up moss and dry grass and everything I could think of to build a comfortable birthing place for the children. Even as I get ready to relax and start pushing, I step on the lavender petals, spreading the soothing nectar throughout the den, smelling it up with the fragrance that will help calm everyone in the vicinity of my den. I don't know if any other pack members plan on coming but I will welcome any who wish to see the miracle of life.

Before I retire to my birthing bed, I lift my muzzle and cry out for Coza though some part of me already knows hes on his way. He must feel my mounting pain, the inner confidence dispensing as the timing gets closer. I'll need his encouragement now more than ever cause I've never felt as weak as I do now. Age takes a toll on a body and an aged wolf with a litter to bring into the world is no small feat. I've never heard of a wolf at my age birthing pups so we'll just have to wait and see how this goes. None the less, I need him, more than life itself. He is my air to breathe.

Knowing the one cry is enough, I sigh and head to my bed, collapsing on it with a huff as the real pain begins. Coza arrives promptly and goes right to doing all the right things, reassuring me and encouraging me when I need it most. I feel him pushed against me, nuzzling and licking at me. I know he wishes he could take away my pain and let it be his own. He's sweet like that but I would never wish this on him. He means too much to me.

Hours drag by and finally its time to start pushing. I cry out the first time as my body adapts to letting a body through my birthing canal. The contractions rack up the apin that my body can take and I start groaning and whimpering between pushes. There are many times that I'm sure I might have to give up but each and every time, Coza pulls through for me, saying all the right things to make me get through it and push just one more time. Finally the first pup is out, a beautiful baby boy. The first thing I notice is that he has two different colored eyes, one a bright sunset pinkish orange hue and the other a bright jade green. Both eyes have streaks through them as well, a unique and wonderful gift in themselves. As far as color goes, he looks like me, filled with browns, tans, and creams. The upper portion of his body is dark dark brown, almost black which dips down to his toes, quite like his father's coloring. His lower portion is cream and his legs have tan and brown coloring. I lick him clean and push him to my teats, sure that he's hungry. My gleaming brown eyes glance up at Coza with wonder and love as I whisper.

"Your first baby boy, Coza. What shall his name be?"

I want to gift him this, the right to name his first child. After he answers, I smile, sure that he chose the perfect name, before I know its time to start pushing again. Again, I almost quit many time, as grueling as the pain gets, but still I truck through until the second pup arrives, this one a beautiful healthy baby girl. Her eyes are brown with a red tint that fades to a yellow-ocher near the pupils. They are a beauty to behold. Her coat is mostly a soft brown hue, more red than yellow. Her lower portion is a light creamy white with brown over her forehead and past the eyes. Her ears are dark brown and it makes flecks of brown in her fur as it travels to her head. Her neck is dark brown but there are more brown flecks all the way to her tail. She has black flesks near her cheeks and under her eyes and black down her nose. The tip of her tail is dark brown that flecks into the coat and fades. I look to Coza after repeating the ritual of cleaning her and positioning her to nurse beside her brother.

"Your first baby girl. Her name is also yours to choose."

I have had litters before and I've named a lot of them. This is my gifts to Coza as the first litter he's ever sired. I wait for his answer and start to push again, sure that this must be the last time. It is more trying with my weakening state but I manage to push through it, a final baby boy arriving into this world. He looks perfectly healthy to me but some day I may learn of his one defect, the inability to imprint. I would never wish this on any of my brood so I'm sure I'll be sad to hear it if we ever find out. His eyes are bright yellow green with variations of green and light brown within. His coat is mostly sandy tan, his top portion a dark brown all the way to his legs. The brown fades to tan at his back legs and flecks to tan at the tail. His tail is almost completely tan besides the white tip. His paws, muzzle and cheeks are white and his chest makes a V of white surrounded by tan. Part of his nose and under his eyes are tan also with tan eyebrows. His back and shoulders are very dark brown that fades at the tail. The dark brown turns to flecks as it reaches his ears and forehead. I clean him off and put him with his siblings, eager to rest now that my job is almost done. I glance up at Coza, giving him a weak but loving smile.

"Dexter is his calling, Coza. I hope he will be just like you."

Within another hour or so, I've pushed out the afterbirth and done my duty of eating it before checking on my children one last time. I nuzzle into Coza's fur, thanking him silantly for being here with me. I don't know what I would do without him. Finally I let my head collapse and close my eyes. Within moments, I am fast asleep. My time as a mother has officially begun.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
