Smoke rings in the dark Posted on December 19, 2013 at 03:13:59 AM by wynne | | ash
Wynne’s blue eyes drifted with the stallion as he circled around them, his attention elsewhere now but she had no doubt that if she made any move to leave he would not miss it. Ash did not watch him like her mother did, instead tucking her head to rest it against the woman’s chest. Feeling safe the girl was beginning to catch her breath but the stress of change kept her neck and flanks damp, still unsure of her surroundings or the heavy scent that had caused her mother to become uneasy.
“Indeed” Wynne agreed, knowing full and well that if the stallion tried to harm her child it would end with both of them shedding blood. She had no doubt that the brute had fought a few battles, the scars upon his back evidence of such. It was also in the way he behaved, the way he had easily ducked away from her heels should she have actually kicked out when he had nipped at her. She could only hope that they would not end up in battle but the mother’s need to protect was much stronger than self-preservation.
As Nyx moved closer, Wynne finally turned her gaze from the stallion. The pinned ears of the woman were not directed at Ash and it was then that the mother realized she had an ally. Gently she pushed the child closer until Ash was standing against Nyx as well. With both women pressed on either side, despite not knowing Nyx, Ash finally relaxed. Raising her head the girl nibbled at the black mane that hung on the slighter woman’s neck, drawing in her scent and chewing at the air in a sign of submission.
