aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Trying to Forget the Past, This Was Never Meant to Last

The black ess was curled inside their den…her den. She was still not used to sleeping alone, to having so much space in the den that has been dug out to fit the bodies of two lupines. She would wake often in the night, nightmares plaguing her, expecting the other dark form that was supposed to occupy the den to be there to comfort her like he usually was. The nightmares were nothing new to the ess, they had been haunting her since she was a pup, but she had adjusted to someone being there to comfort her when she awoke screaming into the night. Now there was nothing there but the cold leaves to share the den with her. Chenzii rarely cried, but it seemed that that was all she had been doing lately. Sitting alone in her den, whether it was night or day, crying silent tears to try and escape the emptiness that she felt deep inside her chest. She only left the den when the pains in her stomach forced her to eat or if someone called her.

One on of the few days that Chenzii happened to be outside her den she had run into her friend, Magic. The two black femmes had talked and somehow Chenzii agreed to help hold a training session for the other lupines in their pack. She had no idea what made her commit to something when all she wanted to do was crawl back into her den and let the nightmares take over again. The femme was skinny and scrawny now, in no shape to be fighting anyone, and her usually sleek and shiny black pelt was unkempt and dirty. When the two friends parted Chenzii debated just heading back to her den and sleeping, letting her responsibilities slip away as she slept into oblivion. Something deep inside her told her she couldn’t do that. That no matter what she was going through her pack needed her, especially when Kalgalath had just defended the territory at a challenge. It would be a sore way to repay the alpha that had been nothing but kind to her if she just slacked and stayed in her den until she died. The ebony femme needed to do something to get her out of this slump and maybe this activity with Magic would be it.

Chenzii did not know how long she had but she knew if she showed up to the meeting in the state she was in right now would not show anyone that she could train the other wolves. She headed out at a run, towards a nearby river, her muscles protesting at the sudden movement after she had been still for so long. It did not take her long to reach the water, plunging in to the cold water to try and wake herself up. Memories of time when her and Chiron, her lost mate, had played in these waters threatened to haunt her mind, but she pushed those thoughts back down. If she was to be in any type of acceptable state to meet her pack she had to think of anything but her mate. These thoughts were the ones that pushed her into her depression that she was finally trying to beat.

The frigid water surrounded her, forcing her mind to focus on the cold rather than the thoughts fighting to get into her mind. After swimming around for a bit Chenzii came out of the water, shaking the droplets from her pelt, wanting to dry off as soon as possible with the cold air that had been in the forest recently. The femme found a sunny spot to sit and clean out her fur of any other debris that still clung to her despite her dip in the water. After a few moments she was already looking more like herself, even though she could not hide the fact that her bones were more visible than they had been in years. She was debating if she should try to hunt when she heard Magic’s call from the spot that Kal always held the meetings, the clearing in the middle of their terra.

Chenzii shook out her coat one last time before trotting in the direction of her friend. She tried to keep her mind clear of distractions and to focus on the task at hand. When she reached the clearing she was glad to see that she was the first one there. If she was to help Magic lead the groups she should be there by Magic’s side. She went and sat down next to her black colored friend, giving her best attempt at a smile, knowing she wouldn’t fool Magic like she could some of the others in the pack. She was glad to hear Magic’s vocals warm up with the call and hoped others would join them. ”So what’s the plan from here Magic? You know I’m here to help in any way that I can.” She waited patiently to see who else would show, hoping some pups would come along to learn what the two adults could teach them about defending themselves and their territory.
